TOWN OF MASHPEE
BOARD OF HEALTH
July 1, 1999
Meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m.
Members present: Steven R. Ball, John T. Doherty, Robert F. Cram, Sr., Elias A.
McQuaid and Veronica A. Mayer
THE TAPE IS NOT PART OF THE MEETING; IT IS FOR THE PURPOSE OF
TRANSCRIPTION ONLY.
I
Mr. Steven R. Ball, Chairman
I `
1. Sign warrants. Warrants signed.
APPOINTMENT John Rodrigues re: 183 South Sandwich Road
Mr. John Rodrigues was in attendance for this scheduled appointment.
Mr. McQuaid stated, "Applicant is proposing to have the leach field 122.6' from
house 187 South Sandwich Road and 113.6' from 175 South Sandwich Road."
I
Mr. Doherty questioned, "Any reason why you didn't locate the system in the
northeast corner of the lot?"
Mr. Rodrigues responded, "Just to get it as far away as possible from everybody
else's existing system."
Mr. Doherty commented, "If you put it in this area you would get increased
distances from the wells even though the topography would work against you.
What I'm seeing is that the proposed plan is not the best design that could be
proposed. I'd like to know if there are any reasons why the system isn't located
there."
Mr. McQuaid added, "The system would have to be extremely deep if it is in the
northeast corner. It's possible, but Title V doesn't like to see a system more
than 4' below ground. If it does go more than 4' it has to be vented, which isn't
a big deal."
Mr. McQuaid stated, "My gut feeling is to leave the system where it was
proposed based on the lot and that the neighbors have plans to hook up to
town water."
Mr. Cram motioned to grant the variances of 27.4'from the proposed soil
absorption system to the well at 187 South Sandwich Road and36.4'from the
