i
TOWN OF MASHPEE
BOARD OF HEALTH
November 4, 1999
i
i
Board of Health Meeting was called to order at 7:07 p.m.
Members present: John T. Doherty, Co-Chairman,
Robert F. Cram, Sr.,
Elias A. McQuaid and Veronica A. Mayer
THE TAPE IS NOT PART OF THE MEETING; IT IS FOR THE PURPOSE OF
TRANSCRIPTION ONLY.
Mr. John T. Doherty, Co-Chairman
APPOINTMENT_: Solid Waste/Recj clingy
The appointment to discuss solid waste and recycling was cancelled at this time.
APPOINTMENT: David Sanicki, Cape & Islands Engineering,
118 Summersea Road
Mr. David Sanicki was in attendance for this unscheduled appointment.
Mr. McQuaid stated that Mr. Sanicki is present to discuss 118 Summersea Road. Mr.
McQuaid said that on October 7, the Board of Health granted a variance for the
property. It has a zero setback from the street to get as far away from the salt marsh
as possible. There is 101' to the leaching facility and the reserve.
Mr. McQuaid added that the Conservation Commission wants Cape & Islands to move
the house still further away from the marsh. He noted that to do this, the only
possibility would be to relocate the leaching field to the corner. Doing this would
diminish the distance from the marsh to the leaching facility and reserve from 101' to
Ms. Mayer stated that she spoke with Bob Sherman and Diana Lund from the
Conservation office and they had asked her to relay to the Board that they are asking
that the Board of Health grant any variances they can to get the house further back
from the street. They commented that the house is way too big for the lot size.
Mr. McQuaid commented that the significant point is that the distance to the marsh
will be reduced if the septic system is relocated to the only other possible location on
the lot.
Mr. Cram asked what the square footage of the lot is. Mr. Sanicki stated that the
square footage of the lot is 9,600. Mr. Sanicki stated that the problem is that
Conservation would like to see 35' back from the house and 13' from the street line
back to the house.
Mr. Sanicki stated that what he can do is change the preferred leaching system to a
trench system; thereby, giving them another four feet.
