Catherine Laurent stated that she had produced a diagram of a trash truck
showing all the components of the truck, and noted that there would be an opportunity at the
Mashpee Transfer Station to recycle all the components of the truck.

Food Waste. Catherine Laurent stated that she is preparing to roll out an educational program
regarding the separation of food waste from other trash at the transfer station to be used for
organic composting. Separate containers would be required by home owners for collection of
food waste materials as well as a separate designated location at the transfer station recycling
area. Ms. Lauerent is working with a farm in Falmouth that will do the composting, that will
accept bones, dairy products, fish, grains, pasta, as well as food scraps. The farm will place
containers at the transfer station, and will pick them up weekly for a fee of $150.00 per month.
Buckets for collection of food waste can be purchased by home owners at a cost of $5.00 per
bucket. Any concern for potential odors from the food waste can be minimized by adding
charcoal to the buckets, or storing the food waste container in the freezer. The town of
Chatham currently has a small food waste program.

1
