Mashpee - Wakeby Lake Management
Committee
March 26, 2015
7:30 PM
Mashpee Town Hall
Meeting called by: Debi McManus
Type of meeting: Monthly
Secretary Barbara B. Nichols
Attendees: Members: Brian Mauro, Barbara Nichols
Guests: Paul McGrath
The minutes of the January 22, 2015 meeting were accepted as written after a motion by Debi McManus
and second by Brian Mauro.
.Agenda topics
[Agenda topic 1] Lake level/ River outflow
Discussion: The lake measurements are usually done every two weeks but due to the severe blizzard the
27"' of January, the area was inaccessible. The lake has been totally iced over since then also. On March
20"', Barbara was able to measure and the lake was at 55.5 with 15 inches of water flowing over the board
closest to the lake. There was 8 inches of water in the stream at the stairs
These measurements were emailed to Drew in Conservation. Barbara also let Drew know that a small tree
( 2 inches in diameter) had fallen across the path, and could be easily removed after it was no longer
frozen in. Drew cmailed back that on April 6"', AmeriCorps volunteers would be conducting a herring
walk for the lake outflow to Rt. 28. When asked if this meant clearing the river of winter debris, Drew
replied that they would be clearing areas of natural debris that block herring passage, and the herring
didn't need much space.
Conclusions: The lake is at 55.5 feet above sea level, still ice covered.
[Agenda topic 2] Spring Newsletter
Discussion: Barbara presented the newsletter she had completed so far with articles about yellow iris, the
new nitrogen bylaw, an update on TTOR and the 2015 bass tournaments. Four pages remain. Members
are encouraged to write an article and submit it to Barbara.
Conclusions: The newsletter needs four more pages for completion.
