According to Peter Kirwin, Falmouth decided to go the quasi -
government route. They chose the Community Development program due to the various funding
sources that would be available for affordable housing. Within the past 2 years the Falmouth
Board of Selectmen appointed a Falmouth Affordable Housing Task Force. The Falmouth
affordable housing governing bodies now are:
(1) Falmouth Affordable Housing Task;
(2) Falmouth Housing Trust;
(3) Housing Corporation;
(4) Housing Authority.
Leila Botsford asked where Falmouth is now insofar as Affordable Housing is concerned. Peter
said their two biggest priorities right now are:
(1) Seek $5 Million Bond; and
(2) Work with their Planning Board and existing businesses to build second -story
apartments on top of current business sites.
Peter commented that possibly the Bond issue may be able to go through the Economic
Development Industrial Corporation. They're looking into this.
Further, Peter Kirwin advised the Committee that he is on the Home Advisory Committee and
this year they got $160,000 out of $600,000 federal funds that were available.
