Affordable Housing Committee <br />Minutes of Meeting Held Tuesday, October 2, 2001 <br />Mashpee Town Hall — Meeting Room 1 <br />Present: J. Cahalane, L. Patrick, M. LeClair, J. Regan, A. Weinstein, Z. Elizenberry, L. Williams, <br />R. Terry, and Tom Fudala (Planning). <br />Absent: L. Botsford, and G. Marshall. <br />Public Audience: Bea Perkins, League of Women Voters. <br />A quorum being present, John Cahalan, Vice Chairman, called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m. <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />Louise Patrick motioned to accept the minutes of the September 4, 2001 meeting; this was <br />seconded by LaVeme Williams; and unanimously approved. <br />UPDATES <br />Dick Terry opened the discussion stating he used to be employed by affordable housing and, <br />thus, has some experience in this area. He then informed the Committee of the details of his <br />discussion with Bob Murray, which was very fruitful. Dick Terry distributed a packet of <br />materials to the group. According to Dick Terry some of the thoughts expressed by Bob Murray <br />to him included the following: <br />• Lots of cities and towns do not get involved with affordable housing. <br />• Bob suggested he would float a bond. Mary LeClair stated that Falmouth is already <br />doing this and Mary said the County might be looking into doing it. <br />• Try to buy present housing if possible. Falmouth doing this and making preference for <br />municipal employees. Jamie Regan suggested perhaps buying condos and renting them. <br />He noted that Hyannis does this and it has been successful. <br />• Falmouth has housing trust that is in charge. Having the corporate entity means no <br />liability for the town. Dick Terry commented that he believes the Board of Trustees can <br />be bonded. <br />ACTION ITEMS <br />Bob Murray to be invited to next Committee Meeting, which is scheduled for November 6. <br />Louise Patrick will contact him. <br />Prepare Article submitting the Resolution for May -2002 Town Meeting. February is deadline for <br />submitting for May Town Meeting. <br />Present appropriation request at May 2003 Town Meeting. <br />
