He outlined the breakdown of what the casts
would be to operate the public beach area at John's pond on weekends and
holidays: during the entire summer months and what signs and the date would
be, as follows : Weekends and Holidays $6,404; Daily $10, 684; Signs
Gate Costs - $600. Gene also discussed the submission of an article t
operate the beach area for the two weeks prior to July at a cost of $1 , 256.
A letter from the Executive Secretary was reviewed by the Board stating that
the articles were not accepted for inclusion in the warrant for the Special
Town Meeting in February. Concerns of the Selectmen were that the articles
were submitted from the John' s Pond Park Ianagement Committee of which they
had no knowledge of their being such a committee. The Selectmen requested
a joint meeting with the Conservation Commission and Cranberry Bog Manage-
ment Committee on Wednesday, February 8, at 7:00 p.m. to discuss the articles.
Discussion was made on the fact that any articles which were to be submitted
for inclusion on the Annual Town Meeting warrant had to be received by
Selectmen no later than February 6.
Gene Harr said that he would be meeting with the Taxpayers Association and
th'e Finance Committee to give an explanation of ghat the articles were for.
Jean Thomas suggested that he do an overlay for the town meeting presentation
so that it could be put on the screen, In that way, it would be helpful to
the voters.
Discussion was made on who controls the water level, of the Pond. Gene was
advised to check with the Superintendent of Streets as keys were turned over
to him. Gene commented that the intake area was completely filled with sand
and that dredging would have to be done. Advice will be sought from the
Cranberry Sub-Committee*
Gene mentioned that the Federal Covernment was putting in test wells in the
rirod and Hindley Complex area and in the Hoopole Road area.
