Both projects are a long way y
from a point where accessibility issues reed to be addressed. The committee is in the
process of reviewing applicants for ars o M(Clerk of the Works). The library project
has taken on the characteristics of a to .g- g mlm-sees. The bottom line is that the
lack of state finding of the grant has thrown a monkey wrench into the entire project.
The grant is essential to proceed with the present design. Any change i design greater
than %will negate the grant. Furthermore, the demographic assumptions regarding total
Mashpee build-out used to d etennine the size needed have proven to be flawed. Build-
out population is now estimated to be considerable less than previously projected and
library of the currently planned size may no longer be justified. A three-man sub-
committee comprising Steve Cook, Sheldon Gilbert and Iry Goldberg, all very
experienced with the library planning to date, has been created within the Planning and
Construction Committee to review current status and possible options. The Town
Manager also has been working very hard to seek viable options for what all recognize as
badly needed project. Stay tuned for the February sweeps.
alert reported the creation of civilian parking patrols is on track for activation in the near
fture with the full support of Chief Collins. Eight, possibly nine, people have
volunteered for the program. The current plan is for the volunteers to operate in two-man
teams. All security checks have been completed and Chief Collins is in the process of
getting official identification cams for the volunteers. Deputy Chief Todino will soon
conduct a trair'ng session for the group to include the ground rules for operation. The
patrols are expected to begin shortly atter the training is completed. The public will b
informed of the program prior to its activation via the Mashpee Enterprise and the public
access television channels(channels 18 &22).
The 'Imminent activation of the parking patrols once again leads to the question of
possibly eannarking funds generated from:fixes for ADA projects.
