MASHPEE CONSERVATION COMMISSION
March 27 , 1986
Members present: March duPont , Chairman; FaUline DeLory Louise
e Arman; Gertrude Ferriday; Elliot Rosenberg.
Absent: E . Stuart Peoples arrived at 9:15 P, M, ) ; Dorothy •
Studley.
Advisors present : Mary Brown; Carol Jacobson; Gerald Sprout ,
Absent: Wilmont e rrow; Judy Mills ,
Ca.rta.l Development Cor (Holmes & McGrath, Inc . - Agent)
To construct and maintain a. single-family dwelling with attached
garage , deck and patio. To construct a. swimming pool , landing,
ori-site sewage-disposal system, driveway and appurtenances . To
perform grading, l o a ing, seeding and planting at Lot- #9 O ck v ay
Bay. This hearing is continued from March 6 , 1986 .
Robert Burgman presented revised landscaping plans , He stated
that the patio will be brick set in sand. Pattern of drainage
from patio at the level t the house and the patio surrounding
the pool is shown alongit ry:r ell locations etc.
The edge of transition is the edge of the - vegetated wetland an
is clearly marked on the plan,
He said that the only time a, pool has to be emptied is for main-
tenance purposes , approximately once every seven years . He com-
pared the situation at Lot #8 O k ay Bay and that DEQE had had no
problems with the fact that that pool would be emptied provided
that at least a, week had elapsed since the last chlorination. Then,
it could be pumped right out over the ground surface . He said that
if that is a problem for the Commissioners , another dry well can be
installed for the emptying of the pool. From ars engineering point
of view, Mr. Burgman does not feel that that is necessary,
There is a. great deal of concern ab out the extent of the lot clearing,
the retaining walls and alteration of terrain. Erosion could con-
ceivably
o -
ceiva. ly take the whole bank. Bergman said that the retaining gall
is to minimize the alteration. He said that if the bank isn' t cut,
there would have to be a higher retaining wall because of the dif-
ferences in the elevations .
Ms . duPont suggested that there be less decking and a smaller pool,
Mrs . Ferriday pointed out -to the client that the area is in a flood-
hazard zone and the pool could be inundated -with salt water,
