F <br /> MASHPEE CONSERVATION COMMISSION <br /> Minutes of February 3, 1994 <br /> Commissi o ers, prese t : Harry Desrosiers , Gertrude Simmons Ferriday, <br /> susana Lanni , John Johansen, John Fitzsimons , <br /> Paul A.verett . <br /> Also present were selectwomen Carol .Jacobson. and Judy Mills, Herring Warden Leigh <br /> Potter, Brian Handy and Steve Ball. <br /> The Chair called the meeting to order at 6:55 p.m. and appointed John Fitzsimmons <br /> a voting member. <br /> PUBLIC COMMENTS: None, <br /> :Co CRANBERRY AGFA: Brian Handy presented the Commission with a check in the <br /> amount of $37,644.00 towards the 1993 harvest. <br /> FLUME WORK - Status: The County sale on plants Will be taken advantage of for <br /> revegetation. Bids for the work will be turned in to the Executive Secretary, <br /> PLANT LIST: Mr. Sherman advised the omission's Arborist, Ellis Allen, will <br /> review the list:. '"The disturbed "areas will main be disturbed. this spring for <br /> sanding operations',, once the sand is removed., }it will be' r vegetated. Brian <br /> has agreed, if'th6 Commission provides the plants, he will help with the planting. <br /> Plants must be picked up on April 21 -- 23. <br /> s <br /> The lease agreement calls for a status rep rt within 45 days of harvest. <br /> Mr. Handy had the report with him. Ile advised they had taken about three acres <br /> of the Garner Bog off and replanted that with a high yielding variety. The <br /> smaller of the two pieces was s tried i aria is --riot as- yet planted. 'three acres <br /> of the Quashnet hog was -'removed oved. ands re larked and. another five w111 be replanted <br /> this spring. Nothing has been done with the flumes as yet. <br /> . Handy advised they did work on the Johns Pond sluiceway with concrete <br /> blocs to stabilize the situation. 'here was a fairly decent harvest off <br /> the Quashnet and small remaining piece of Garner. Roads were widened going <br /> around the Quashnet. They are trying to stabilize the banks. A 1 o t of sand <br /> was removed and regraded where they could. They had hoped to do ice sanding <br /> this winter but are running out of time. They have ordered two barges of <br /> sand and hopefully they can flood the bogs in the spring and get some sand <br /> out there at the Quashnet Bog. They dial work on the irrigation system and <br /> cleaned all the lateral ditches and removed m terl- is with a helicopter to <br /> minimize damage to the bog. Elevan tori of vines were put in that were purchased <br /> from Wisconsin. <br /> AI LTA OPERATING PLAN: Mr. Sherman asked if there was any progress? 11r, Handy <br /> had not heard from Don Liptack and Mr. Ball will contact hin, tomorrow. <br /> Mr. Sherman advised that Joel Lerner of EOEA has stated that there should be <br /> a Conservation Plan in place as soon as possible. <br /> Mrs. Ylills asked for the revenue figures for the bogs. Mr. Sherman advised <br /> payment is in the amount of $37,644; last year the figure was $22,000. <br /> Tentative decisions were made at a meeting Mr. Sherman. and Mrs. Ferriday had <br /> with Executive Secretary and 'down Accountant. According to EoEA this-money <br /> must_ be spent on town conservation Land., it cannot go back to the general fund. <br />
