BOARD of LIBRARY TRUSTEES MONTHLY MEETING APRIL 2 , 1996 7:00 P. M. I PRESENT: ANTON BUSCHEN 'ELDT HELENS DEFOE, LIBRARY DIRECTOR CHERYL HAWVER MITI BAR SH GLORIA SELNDER DICK S HAUGH E Y II MINUTES of PREVIOUS MEETING The minutes of the March 26th meeting were accepted as pre- sented. III REPORTS; Librarian: Helene Defoe reported that -circulation for the month of March 1936 totalled 4,185. We are running a couple of thousand ahead of last year, Helene reported that the library had received a donation of $300. from the New Seabury Women's Club to be used towards the purchase of audio books. This donation will be appreciated by the many patrons who borrow boo .s on tape. Friends: Helene reported that at the last book sale the Friends made $11.6. They had their Spring Friends of the Library meeting last week. The speaker was Stephan Brown, an herbalist. They had a very ]urge at- tendance. The presentation was very much enjP oyed. Capital Improvement Program: Dick. Shaughnessy reported that after it had been kicked around a bit, it was decided we should go with fifteen year bonding for the library expansion, and also bring in the prior year before construction $15,000. Dick expressed some thoughts that he would lie to pass along: He felt that this was not tee early to mentally select an additional building committee. We should consider who -might be good candidates for such a committee; citizens who have the commitment to the need for expansion who would have the time to devote to. -the task.. Hopefully they would have some experience in some form which would be helpful to the committee. Then, in 1999, we should submit ars article at the regular Town Meeting, creating a committee and requesting $15,000 for engineering and architectural services for the year 2000. At the same time, we submit an article for the regular Town Meeting, we should suggest interested citizens who would like to serve on such a committee, send letters of interest to the selectmen. Mimi agreed that we need people who are truly dedicated to the library expansion with some experience in some areas which would be helpful to the committee.
