HELENE DEFOE, LIBRARY DIRECTOR <br /> CHARLOTTE FANEUIL <br /> O DREA ROBERTSON <br /> j GLORIA SELANDER <br /> IMI MARSH <br /> II MINUTES of PREVIOUS MEETING: <br /> The minutes of July 9, 1996 were accepted as presented. <br /> III REPORTS: <br /> Library Director;- Helene Defoe reported that circulation for the month of <br /> July 1996 totalled 11,4'83 Items. Included in that total. were 7,177 adult,. <br /> 3,609 juvenile and 151 young adult items. There were 525 paperbacks, 55 <br /> periodicals, 474 dios ca sett-e and 2,703 video cassettes, The library <br /> as <br /> borrowed 169 interlibrary loan items for Mashpee patrons and lent 155 items <br /> to other libraries. There were 4,517 items lent to residents of other <br /> Massachusetts communities and 763 items lent to out-of-state borrowers. <br /> 143 new library cards were issued in July. There were ,460 visits made <br /> to the library during the month. <br /> .Town of Mashpe'e Comprehensive Plan: Section on the library. Photocopies <br /> of the library section were passed out t the meeting. - This is the draft <br /> prepared by Eric Smith, Assistant Town Planner, He gave Helene a copy <br /> and asked her to get back to him with comments on what he had prepared <br /> on the- library portion. Helene thought the draft was well dome. He has <br /> not only outlined the Library's needs, but working with the figures that <br /> Helene- had given him,- and other statistics he had on population, etc, we <br /> were even more unde'rsizdd than we thought we were. Helene felt that this <br /> would make it even easier for them when they were going out to do plans for <br /> the building and other improvements. <br /> Discussion followed. It was agreed that Eric Smith had' dome a terrific <br /> job. <br /> B. Friends of the library: No report from the Friends. <br /> Other: Helene reported that Greg Taylor had stopped by the library <br /> today. He reported that the union and the town have. been negotiating <br /> a contract. Helene had a copy of the contract to review. There will <br /> be a meeting of employees on August 22 9 1996 to vote on the contract. <br /> r <br /> Helene stated that she believed after that this would have to go to <br /> Town Meeting for the taxpayers to vote on whether to accept the contract <br /> r to not accept the contract. <br /> Helene suggested that the contract was available for anyone who warted <br /> to look through it. <br /> L - <br />
