BOARD of LIBRARY_TRUSTEES.- <br /> ---,- ---REGULAR <br /> TH UST S.----.- --!REGULAR MONTHIY MEETING <br /> TUESDAY,MARCH 2,2010 <br /> TOWN HALL W TIl G ROOM 3 ' <br /> Present: David Burton,John Kowalski,Patricia Garnache,Jane Dolan,Nancy Soderberg(arrived 6:20 p.m.), and <br /> r Helene DeFoe,Library Director. <br /> i <br /> Absent: Carlo D'Este,and Dianna Smith. <br /> Also Present: Janet Burke—Children's Librarian,lashpee Library <br /> David Burton,Chairman, called the meeting to order at 6:08 p. . and announced that Janet Burke would he joining the <br /> meeting at 6:30 p.m. <br /> Approval of Minutes <br /> ,login Kowalski motioned to accept the minutes of the Meeting of February 9,20 10 as amended;Patricia Gamache <br /> seconded this motion;and the motion was approved by all Trustees present ... Nancy Soderberg had not yet arrived. <br /> Library Building Pro.iect <br /> Mashpee Enterprise Article <br /> Several of the Trustees indicated their surprise at the article in the Ma.shpee Enterprise in reference to the Trustee <br /> meeting of February 9 and also mention in the article-of the open house to be held April 2nd. Several of the Trustees <br /> asked who or hove did this get reported to the la hpEnterprise? David said that he received a phone call from Brian <br /> #Kehrl of the Enterprise asking for David's comment. David said he left Brian with the notion that Wayne Taylor's <br /> concern was-to.have an open house and Library will open when we can. <br /> April 2nd Ribbon-Cuttinp,Ceremony <br /> The Trustees questioned when and how the April Vd date for the ribbon-cutting ceremony carne about. Helene said she <br /> learned of the April 2dtour at the PCC Subcommittee meeting and she asked Joyce whether the Trustees had been <br /> informed. <br /> David said he received an e-mail from Steve Cook on February I e stating that the PCC along with Town Manager and <br /> the Selectmen decided to hold a ribbon cutting on Friday, April 2 from 10 a.m.to 12 p.m. Steve stated in the e-mail that <br /> the Trustees are invited along with town employees,the citizen's of Ma.shpee,and other invited guests. Steve went on to <br /> say the Trustees can still have the soft opening on April 14 and an opening ceremony on April 16 as previously deckled. <br /> David said on February 1 �'he forwarded Steve Cook's e-mail to the Board of Trustees. <br /> New Busing <br /> Janet Burke arrived at 6:30 p.m and explained the importance of addressing the issue of unattended children in the <br /> Library. Janet pointed out that this will be of concern with the move to the larger 2-story library building. Janet advised <br /> that she researched other libraries to determine safe child policies that were adopted. For instance,what age is <br /> appropriate for-children to be unattended at the.Library`' She said some libraries intentionally do not define age because <br /> it would depend on the individual child. Janet explained that!Martha's Vineyard created an island-wide policy and <br /> children must be 8 years old to be unattended;Falmouth set the age at 10 and older;!!Marstons Mills also set the age at <br /> 10. Janet distributed a draft of a Safe Child Policy to be considered by the Trustees for the Mashpee Library. The <br /> policy and age limits arrived at by the Trustees is attached to the printed set of these minutes. <br /> !Motion: John Kowalski motioned that the Safe Child Policy document armed upon by the Trustees be accepted; <br /> .lane Solan seconded the motion; and it was unanimously approved. <br /> Helene suggested that at the next Trustee meeting the Library Behavior Policy be reviewed by the Trustees;and the <br /> Trustees agreed thi should be done. <br />
