Seconded by Chm,, Garland. This �. <br /> is a vote. 1 <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND BEADING <br /> 6 :00 p.m. - Dr. ,Arthur Gaines of the oceanographic Institute came to discuss <br /> with the Board of Selectmen the last phase of studies on the <br /> Foppone set Spit, Dr. Gaines reviewed all the studies which j <br /> includes reports on the survey of shoreline structures; recent <br /> evolution of an active barrier beach; rapid- formation and de- <br /> gradation of barrier spits in areas with lour rates of littoral <br /> drift; and, coastal sediment transport. <br /> Executive Secretary, Joseph Murphy explained that Dr. Gaines <br /> and he would set up a public session to inform the public on <br /> these studies and a representative from the Corps of Engineers <br /> would be present at that time to discuss the dredging of <br /> Popponesset Beach. Board thanked Dr. Gaines for his services. <br /> Discussion continued on setting the date for the public session. <br /> Cm. Garland -asked that both gentlemen determine the dame, but <br /> his only request was that the meeting did not proclude other <br /> meetings. C m. Garland said that where Mrs. Thomas had been � <br /> involved in this matter from its beginning, he asked her if <br /> she had anything' to say. <br /> Mrs. Thomas said the bottom line is what we are going to do <br /> with the management.. -Chi►. -Garland said l "what can we do. " <br /> . Gaines stated that they could advise but that they could <br /> not endorse any policies. Be also stated that as scientists <br /> heir involvement was scientific and that h would be willing <br /> to furnish any information that anyone wanted 'on these studies. <br /> Board thanked D . Garland convened .the public hearing on New England Telephone IS <br /> petition 4-501 on Route 28 in Mahpee-, Chme Garland questioned <br /> the new sketch and asked Mr, Francis Brown to explain. <br /> Mr. Brown said the original petition and sketch referred to old <br />
