Board of selectmen Regular Meeting Wednesday, June 1 , 198' Board members present: B. Jean Thomas , a..iry oman; AndrewGottlieb; . Willard Hanson. Joseph Murphy, Executive Secretary, was also present. Selectmen - Jeremy Carter and Peter Lawrence arrived a71-10Pe ISI. Chairwoman Thomas convened -t is meeting a P. Mo Selectman Hans ori moved that the Board accept the minutes of the regular, meeting held on June 3 , .1987. Mr. Gottlieb seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous . APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS : 1. shellfish Constable re : various shellfish matters . Pursuant to his memorandum' dated Tune 3 . 19879 Constable Ryan re- quested permission for shellfish grantholder, Rick Kuusela, to harvest quahogs from his grant, which is Grant #5, with a small mechanized dredge . if this operation is allowed, the Constable has prepared guidelines for the use of said dredge . Mr. Kuusela was present and gave a brief description of this proposed operation, r. Hanson moved that the Board e rani t Rick Ku s e la to dredge the Grant #5 area as discussed and in accordance with stipulations set forth by the shellfish Constable , Mr. Gottlieb seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous ,, (Note : Messrs . Carter and Lawrence arrived at this point in the proceedings . ) Regarding a different subject, Constable Ryas stated that in cooperation with the Barnstable County Extension Service and a. volunteer commercial fisherman from the Town of Falmouth here is an opportunity to conduct an experiment concerning the rejuve- nation e uve-� nationofjuvenileshellfishin waquoit Bay, specifically along the shoreline at the tip of Seconsett Island. The experiment involves the taking of and the analysis of bottom sediments in that area of wa uoi-t Bay. The testing will regard acidic levels of the sediment which is believed to inhibit maturation of juvenile shellfish. Mr. Ryan described steps of the experiment.
