23
have run into this before where only a portion is going to charity. Willowbend is
great for doing that. A great portion of it goes to charity. But, on the other hand
they hirer caterers that are making money.
Mr. Frederick states that he does have a check from them. But, he just assumed
that it was non-profit. However, he can't verify it.
Mr. Doherty re-iterated that if it is a non-profit program he has no problem waiving
the fee. They just got into the thing where a non-profit agency is hiring a for profit
company.
Mr. Ball then asked if they were all set with the four requests.
Mr. Doherty made a motion to approve them all as submitted. Mr. Santos seconded
the motion. Motion passed.
Mr. Doherty then stated that he did see one that he had a little concern about. The
one with the clams or potentially hazardous foods. But, he was sure that Mr.
Harrington was on top of that stuff.
Mr. Harrington stated that if it was the fried clams he was concerned about it. He
checked the code on that issue. If the seafood was going to be raw or uncooked it
would be no as long as they have the ability to maintain their temperatures.
Mr. Doherty stated that it was his intent to throw a lot of it on his shoulders. But,
he is going to look to him to confirm that these vendors have the right equipment
and the ability to maintain the food safely.
Mr. Harrington also stated that the BOH would be taking Mr. Frederick out of the
loop next year. They are going to set up something different. He doesn't need the
hassle. If someone says that they want to have a food booth. Mr. Frederick will say
go see the BOH. The BOH is going to deal with them directly. This way the BOH
collects the fee and there doesn't have to be any inter-department checks changing
hands. It is all a duplication of effort. The BOH want to deal with the food people
directly so that we can ask them the right questions. What he would like to do is
two weeks or a week prior (Our regulation says two weeks) and get together with
the vendors. Then the BOH will advise the vendors that until these items have
been accomplished they won't open. The vendors wait until all of them are
inspected before opening the event. That Wednesday before they met with the
vendors and told them what they needed. If they didn't show up. They didn't get a
permit.
b. Conflict of Interest Training
Mr. Harrington presented a phamplet on a Conflict of Interest training that is put
together through the state ethics committee is coming to do it. It is open to BOH
members and department heads. It is on Wednesday, December Se, 2001. He
wanted to make them aware of the session. He would make copies of the
information for the members.
