TOWN OF MASHPEE
BOARD OF HEALTH
December 17th, 2001
The emergency meeting was called to order at 4:06 PM.
Members Present: Steven R. Ball, L. Glen Santos, Glen E. Harrington, John Doherty
and Veronica Warden.
THE TAPE IS NOT PART OF THE MEETING: IT IS FOR THE PURPOSE OF
TRANSCRIPTION ONLY. THE CHAIRMAN FURTHER MOVED THAT THE SECRETARY
TRANSCRIBE THE MINUTES VERBATIM AS REQUIRED BY REGULATION.
Mr. John Doherty, Chairman,
Mr. Doherty began by stating the BOH convened to today because the BOH executed an
emergency closure for the restaurant or facility known as the Great Wall located at
Route 151 in Mashpee in accordance with 105 CMR 590 054A - Emergency Order
Closure. He then asked Mr. Harrington to bring the BOH members up to speed.
Mr. Harrington began by stating that last Friday around noontime Ms. Veronica Warden
went to do a routine food inspection which resulted in several violations that were
critical. Ms. Warden felt that Mr. Harrington needed to review the situation. Ms. Warden
called Mr. Harrington and he went down to verify the violations. They had a discussion
at the property. They both felt that at that time due to the nature of the violations that
the restaurant should be closed until they could come to some type of resolution on
changing the activities of the restaurant regarding the food handling practices.
Mr. Doherty continued by stating that just as a basis for further discussion he asked if
proper training was offered or taken by the staff at the restaurant.
Mr. Harrington asked if he was referring to the time of the inspection.
Mr. Doherty confirmed that that was correct. In particular, had they received Serve Safe
certification?
Mr. Harrington responded that he was of the belief that three of the employees have had
the ServSafe certification as of September of this year.
Ms. Warden joined the conversation at this point in time stating that this was per the
BOH's request from last year when they brought them before the BOH because of the
critical violations noted at that time. This was in lieu of fines. They were to attend the
Safe Serve program.
Mr. Doherty stated that it was offered. They attended. They successfully completed.
Mr. Harrington stated that the certificates were posted at the restaurant.
