2
Mr. Doherty entertained a motion to approve the minutes of August 30u, 2001.
Mr. Santos stated that he had identified two errors in the minutes. He is not the
"secretary."He is the co-chairman. Plus, on page four, it wasn't mentioned that the
motion was made, seconded and approved. Mr. Santos asserted that with those
two changes he would make a motion to approve.
Mr. Ball seconded it. Motion passed.
Errors so noted and corrected on original minutes.
3. Letter from Maxine and Brian Wolfset re: Complaint South Cane Beach
Mr. Ball stated that he had read the letter and found the content to be very
interesting.
Mr. Ball commented that the raw garbage would be our responsibility.
Ms. Warden disagreed. She stated that the DPW goes to the South Cape Beach on
a daily basis to rake the beach.
Mr. Doherty asked who she spoke with.
Ms. Garron, Administrative Assistant, stated that she had originally spoke with Mr.
Wolfset. She asked the anonymous caller if she would like to leave her name and
number so that the health agent may return her call. She said, "No,just take notes
and I will call her tomorrow. Also, since you wouldn't let me use the beach today. I
thought I'd call with my list of other problems that have been on my mind over the
summer." Ms. Garron further stated that she took notes of Mrs. Wolfsan's
complaints and gave them to Ms. Warden. Mrs. Wolfset called back the next day
and spoke with Ms. Warden who had an extensive conversation with her.
Ms. Warden stated that her phone call was one of at least 100-hundred phone calls
the day we closed the beach. Furthermore, Ms. Warden went down to inspect the
beach and found nothing abnormal. There weren't even any birds and the beach
had been raked. She did call and question the DPW regarding the care of the
beach. The DPW did have it on the database that they had cleaned the beach.
Mr. Doherty stated that he did not like the insinuation that the response from the
health agent was "brief and terse." He was not saying that it was accurate.
Ms. Warden responded that it was a tough two days. The department had calls
from people who were routinely screaming and hollering at all of the department
members. Two people only fielding all of those calls, by the second day, the
department was pretty wiped out.
Mr. Doherty then stated that the names on the copy list help to explain the nature
and content of the letter. He also recommended that instead of tying up the lines
with people of this nature that we should suggest that they use the voice mail to
leave a message. He then noted the letter.
