1
Grant Manager. No report.
SELECTION BOARDS. Jim Long reported that at a meeting of the Furnishings Subcommittee
held two weeks ago, the three color boards submitted by JCA were found to be unacceptable,
both in level of quality and coloration. A follow-up meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 5th,
2:00 PM at the Senior Center, with JCA and the furniture subcommittee to discuss alternatives.
Terry Herman, interior decorator, Tom O'Neill, owner of Painted Treasures in Mashpee
Commons, and Diana Lannon, interior decorator, are members of the subcommittee, two of which
will attend the May 5th follow-up meeting.
STUDY PROJECTS
Landscaping. In the absence of Ed Adams, it was reiterated that Jane and Dick Capelotti,
members of the landscaping subcommittee, are preparing alternative landscaping designs to
meet the price of$37,000. Jim Long stated that the landscaping committee should be mindful of
the need to incorporate the ideas of donors who have already contributed, i.e., a$1000 donation
given in the name of Steve Gorney. A memorial garden in his name, perhaps with a bench, was
suggested.
Irrigation. Harold Klegman reported that Bud Abbott is working with Mashpee Commons as to
how much they will commit.
FUNDRAISING.
The fundraising committee met yesterday, May 3d. They are working on a bricks program, a
blanket/coverlet program, and on mailings. The FMSC and Friends of Council on Aging need to
work together to develop a Needs list. Iry stated that there are three add alternate items with no
money yet committed. They are partitions, ceramic tile, and case work.
DISCUSSION.
Iry reported that a letter had been received from Trimark, indicating that the refrigerator we had
ordered was no longer available. An alternate made by the same manufacturer is$200 more.
Another model at the same price is available. JCA will look at the alternatives and give the
committee a recommendation.
Betty Nichols suggested getting an estimate on blinds and drapes for the new Senior Center, and
then let the Friends of the COA come up with a gift. Jim Long will bring the matter up at the
Furnishings Subcommittee meeting tomorrow.
The next meeting of the Senior Center Building Committee was scheduled for Monday, May 24,
2004, at 1:30 PM, at the Mashpee Town Hall, Conference Room 2. As there was no further
business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:45 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Ina G. SchI/hm
Recording S cretary
2
