3. Three furniture vendors have been contacted and will provide furniture samples for
review by the sub-committee. The vendors are W.B. Mason, the Wholesale Distributors
in Cotuit, and School Furnishings, a furniture distributor out of Amherst, MA. Furniture
catalogs from the three vendors will be reviewed at the subcommittee meeting tomorrow.
Selection of requests for sample furnishings will be decided at that time. Provision will be
made to have the samples available for display at the Senior Center. Jim stated that
orders for furniture should be made by August 1 n at the latest, but even sooner if
possible, to ensure delivery by the completion date of the new senior center. Furniture
distributors require 3 to 4 months for delivery.
4. The subcommittee will begin discussion of window treatments at their June 8 meeting.
Landscaping and Irrigation. Ed Adams reported:
1. A recent meeting was held with Mashpee Commons to discuss coordination of
landscaping efforts for the new Senior Center.
2. One issue that will need to be determined is whether the Senior Center should have its
own irrigation well, or whether to share the Mashpee Commons existing well. The
committee agreed that it would be advisable to have a separate well for the exclusive use
of the Senior Center.
3. All donations of trees will be reviewed and approved by Ellis Allen. Tavares has
volunteered to plant all trees free of charge that are donated to the Senior Center
4. The Landscape sub-committee will meet at the Mashpee Commons office, above the Tea
Shoppe on Steeple Street, at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, June 9P. Ed will reporton the
meeting at the next Senior Center Building Committee.
FUNDRAISING.
Iry reported:
1. Under review: bids for the movable partitions. Iry had requested a bid from Statewide for
the partitions. They gave a bid of$24,700 for the original partitions. There would be an
additional $1350 charged for a door in the partitions. This comes to a total bid of
$25,750. JCA recommended that Iry contact Corbin-Hufcor for a second bid. Iry
received a bid from Hufcor for$21,350, for three partitions including a door. Hufcor also
sent samples and recommended that we consider two other types of material for the
partitions that are less expensive and meet all fire codes. Ed Adams and Jim Long will
plan to visit and observe local facilities having the two alternative partition materials being
recommended.
2. Bids for the casework and fireplace are being followed up by Bud Abbott. A donation
may be forthcoming toward the fireplace.
DISCUSSION.
Iry reported that he had received a call from Keyspan requesting a status report on the new
building. Keyspan will call in another month to arrange a visit to see the new Senior Center.
The next meeting of the Senior Center Building Committee is scheduled for Monday, June 28,
2004. A tour of the new Senior Center has been arranged for the committee at 3:30 PM after the
6/28/04 meeting.
As there was no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:50 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Ina G.
