Excluded from the recommendation are furnishings for the lobby and the lounge.
Jim distributed copies of the recommended specs for furnishings. W.B. Mason has submitted a
bid of$69,320.40. Two other furniture companies have the specs and are expected to quote on
the project. Jim went through the specs report with the building committee, detailing items
included in each room. After discussion, there was a motion by Betty Nichols that the Building
Committee accept the furniture procurement specs prepared by the Furnishings Subcommittee,
to be used to solicit bids from furniture companies. Art Weinstein seconded the motion. The
committee unanimously approved the motion. Joyce Mason will be consulted on the process to
finalize bids received.
Other furnishing items being planned for the new Center include horizontal blinds for the front and
back of the.building where light comes in during the day; outdoor tables for the patio. It was
suggested that some of the long picnic tables at the existing Senior Center might be able to be
transported to the new Center.
Landscaping—Ed Adams.
Ed reported that three bids for the irrigation system installation had been received,
1) $8,600
2) $5000
3) $3380
Ed is expecting receipt of a fourth bid for the installation.
If Mashpee Commons decides to hook up to the irrigation system, there will be an additional cost.
The Commons has committed to$5000 toward the irrigation system. Power wiring for the pump
will be on its own circuit and will have to come from the construction budget. FMSC will likely
cover the difference in any cost over$5000 for the irrigation system.
Jean Noussee inquired about the possibility of moving the existing Thrift Shop building to the new
Senior Center site. Ernest Virgilio stated that it would have to be installed on a hard surface, and
would need to be handicap-accessible. Iry suggested that a Thrift Shop subcommittee
investigate the idea of moving the Thrift Shop building, and identify some possible alternatives to
such a move.
FUNDRAISING.
Iry stated that Mashpee Commons would be going through the FMSC on their donations toward
the landscaping. Mr. Virgilio is going to assist with getting a bid for sod for the lawn. FMSC will
be contacted for contributions toward funding for the well and irrigation system to supplement the
Commons$5000 donation. A motion was made to go ahead with procurement of the well and
the irrigation system through the auspices of the FMSC. The motion was seconded, and
unanimously passed by the committee.
SEPTIC SYSTEM AND ROAD REALIGNMENT.
Iry presented the current status of the issue. Mashpee Commons is going forward with the road
realignment prior to the completion of the approval cycle with the DEP for the septic system. A
meeting is to be held next week with the DEP to approve the septic system for Mashpee
Commons and any alternative that we may require to open the building prior to completion of the
septic system. Iry is optimistic that we can meet the requirement of the septic system hookup
with the exception of installation of the lights at Rt. 151. The road will be realigned, but the lights
will not be available until next spring. Ernest Virgilio explained that the process of getting permits
for lights, sewer line installations and sewage connections is very time consuming. Mashpee
Commons is working on the design of the road realignment. The sewage connection across the
road must be done in conjunction with the road realignment.
2
