Mr. Virgilio reported that a subcontractor of one of the subcontractors has been calling the Town
Manager to complain about not getting paid. The subcontractor has been paid by the Town, but he has
not paid his subcontractor. The Town therefore is not responsible for this nonpayment complaint.
PROJECTS
Furnishings. Iry Goldberg reported in Jim Long's absence.
1. Lobby/Lounge furniture. Iry distributed a recommendation from the furniture subcommittee for the
selection of the lobby and lounge furniture(See Attachment A). Harold Klegman moved that the
Senior Center Building Committee accept the recommendations of the furniture subcommittee as
outlined in the attached memo. Art Weinstein seconded the motion, and the committee
unanimously approved
2. Kitchen. Trimarc, who will be installing the kitchen, as well as Mr. Virgilio and the contractor, all
recommend installing a stainless steel panel behind the stove, an item not included in the contract.
Iry received a quote for$477 for the recommended panel. He will ask that the FMSC add this item
to their contract with Trimarc. Iry also reported receipt of a bill for$781 for the hookup of power to
the pump for the well. He will also give this bill to the FMSC. Harold Klegman moved that the
committee approve these two bills for payment. Betty Nichols seconded the motion. The
committee unanimously approved the motion.
Landscaping. Iry Goldberg reported in Ed Adams' absence.
The horticulturalist, Ellis Allen, is ready to go. As soon as Ed Adams returns from vacation, he will be
informed that the trees are scheduled for planting the first week of November.
Grand Opening. Iry reported that in the absence of a volunteer to chair the Grand Opening Planning
Committee, he would assume the job. Harold Klegman, Art Weinstein, and Jean Noussee all offered to
work on the project with Irv. Bud Abbott will be asked to contact Roche Brothers for a donation of
food/refreshments for the event. Iry suggested that the event include a ribbon-cutting ceremony,
followed by a reception. People will be available at the reception to answer questions and take orders
for commemorative bricks. It was suggested that the quilt be displayed, also for taking orders.
Fund Raising. Iry reported that the Friends are putting together a fundraising musical recital program,
using the piano in the new Senior Center. This event is planned for early January'05. To date,
donations to the new Center total $250,000.
DISCUSSION. Iry stated that the traffic light to be installed at the Rt. 151/Jobs Fishing Road
intersection has been ordered. Alignment of the road and sewage connection begins next week.
The question was asked about the future of the Senior Center Building Committee, once the building is
completed. Iry Goldberg surmised that the committee would continue for another six to nine months
after completion.
The coffee machine in the kitchen of the Senior Center will be coin-operated, to eliminate the need for a
staff member to be responsible for handling cash.
The next meeting of the Senior Center Building Committee was scheduled for Monday, November 1,
2004, at Mashpee Town Hall, Conference Room 2, at 1:30 PM. As there was no further business, the
meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Inaobohm
Recordi Secretary
enclosure
2
