` r ,
TOWN OF MASHPEE '` '° t ,-P.",
SENIOR CENTER BUILDING COMMITTI=t 0€11 20 P141' 12: 52
Minutes of the Meeting of Wednesday, October 13, 2004
Committee Attendees Also Attending:
Irving Goldberg Ernest Virgilio
Harold Klegman
Art Weinstein
Betty Nichols
Jean Noussee
Chairman Irving Goldberg called the meeting to order at 1:10 PM.
REVIEW OF MINUTES
The minutes from the meeting of 09/27/04 were unanimously approved as presented.
BILLS
Chairman Irving Goldberg reported receipt of the following bills for approval:
1. JCA -$7,400. With payment of this bill, JCA will have been reimbursed for 85%of their total
budget.
2. STG Consultants -$7,140. This includes $2,640 for ongoing administrative costs, and$4,500 for
project implementation.
3. Clerk of the Works - $2,460. This bill covers the period from 9/27/04—10/08/04, and includes
requirements for the preparation and first coat of blacktop for the parking lot.
After review of the bills, the committee approved payment and signed off on them.
Mr. Virgilio explained that his bill represents $400 over his budget. He stated, however, that he has
tapped into a$2000 budget item that had been earmarked for inspections but not used, as he himself
was doing the inspections, leaving $1600 still available toward his expenses. Mr. Virgilio estimates that
he will need another 5 weeks (25 days)to complete the project.
After discussion, Betty Nichols moved that the committee request the Town Manager to authorize the
Clerk of the Works to extend his contract by 5 weeks, commencing on Monday, 10/25104,for completion
of the project, with the proviso that his bills will not exceed $4000. Jean Noussee seconded the motion,
and it was unanimously approved by the committee.
REPORTS
Clerk of the Works. Ernest Virgilio reported on a productive meeting with the DEP yesterday.
Mashpee Commons is beginning next week, prior to final approval, on the septic hookup. Phase one
will be connection to the Police and Fire Departments, and the new Senior Center. Phase two will be
connection to the schools, Boys&Girls Club, eta
Site Meeting. Ernest Virgilio reported that there were 44 items left on his contractor's punch list. Work
is approximately 3 weeks behind. The outside site work is the biggest problem, due to the lack of
sufficient crew. Sidewall shingles are still incomplete; trim and metal flashing still are to be installed; the
blacktop is down but curbs need to be installed. The fireplace is not in, the aluminum front entry has not
yet been delivered; the cupola has not yet been built.
On a positive note, the phone lines are in; the heating system is installed; the cabinetry is being built this
week; wiring for the inside lighting is installed; the electricity for the pump for the well is being installed
today. Trees, 10 to 12 of which have been donated to the new Senior Center, are scheduled to be
planted the first week of November by Tavares, who is doing the work free of charge.
1
