Ernest Virgilio stated that until the occupancy date has been declared, the contractor wants
noone touring the building, for safety reasons.
Site Meeting—Irving Goldberg.
1) The case work is going well in the lounge, and looks beautiful
2) The cupola is a work in progress, and should be installed next week, along with the
flagpole.
3) Three air conditioning condensing units and a transformer in the rear of the building need
to be shielded, for aesthetic reasons. A cedar fence, or a plastic fence, both costing an
additional $3500, is one option. A preferred option is to collect the$3500 from the
contractor and plant shrubs around the units. Jean Noussee moved, and Ed Adams
seconded, that the committee give the $3500 to the landscaping subcommittee for
purchase of shrubs to be planted around the a/c units. The motion passed unanimously.
Ed Adams will contact Ellis Allen to select appropriate shrubs for this purpose. The
whole thing depends on whether or not the contractor can cancel the fence.
4) A well has been installed, and needs to be covered by a shed to protect it from the
elements. Fun Time Creations has a 5 x 5 shed costing approximately$700 that would
do the job. It was moved and seconded by the Committee that this shed, or something
similar, be purchased and installed over the well. The motion was unanimously passed.
5) Stoves were delivered this week for sizing purposes. Linoleum must be installed first,
which is going in today.
6) Bookcases are going in. The finish carpenters are doing a good job.
PROJECTS.
Furniture—Jim Long. Jim reported that the Dec. 27t°delivery date for furniture from W.B.
Mason had run into a snag. The furniture subcommittee could not agree on the fabric selection for
the chairs. Also, the size of the round tables was in dispute. W.B.Mason is coming back to Jim
with more details on alternate table sizes that would accommodate 6 to 8 chairs. The underlying
concern is that the tables selected will be such that seniors will be able to manipulate the
handling of them for storage purposes.
The Mashpee Fire Chief has approved the final fabric selections of the subcommittee. Jim
estimated that the furniture order would be executed by tomorrow, Nov. 23, and the order would
be received by Christmas week or the week following. The fabric color selected is a mix of
blue/green/gold. Jim reminded the committee that once the furniture order is signed, "we own it".
Landscaping—Ed Adams. Ed reported that-holly trees, a cherry tree, and two red buds are
already planted. A$2500 star magnolia tree has been donated. Forty yards of mulch costing
$400 is planned. Volunteers will be needed to spread the mulch. Two volunteers from the Men's
Club have offered to help Ellis Allen water the newly planted trees. Other shrubs will probably be
scheduled for planting next spring. The picnic tables from the existing Senior Center will be
moved to the new senior center and stacked at the back of the property by the edge of the
woods.
Moving Plan—Jim Long. Jim reported that he had talked with two moving companies. One
company charges$110 per hour. One hour would be required for travel time, as well as a charge
per box packed. The second'company, Cape Cod Moving & Storage gave a price of$1600 for
the job. Jim estimates that the move would come to somewhere between $1500 to$2500. The
cost for the move would be covered by the contingency fund. The moving companies
recommended that the WB Mason furniture be delivered first, before the existing senior center
furniture is brought in.
Grand Opening—Iry Goldberg. Iry Goldberg announced that a Grand Opening planning
meeting is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 6`h, at 2:00 PM, at Mashpee Town Hall. All Senior Center
Building Committee members are invited to attend. Iry and Jim Long will work on drafts of
I
