After a brief discussion, the committee agreed to have the contractor order these same lights <br /> for installation in the poles outside the Senior Center. <br /> Mr. Virgilio is still waiting for quotes on the installation of a Grant plaque for the front of the Senior Center. <br /> Once a bid is approved, it will take 30 days for receipt of the plaque. <br /> FURNITURE. <br /> Jim Long reported that to date, approximately$86,000 had been spent for furniture, including chairs, <br /> tables, $6,000 for the blinds, $6,000 for lounge furniture, $2,200 for coffee tables. He anticipates an <br /> additional purchase requirement of portable screens for the Great Room to separate the eating activity <br /> from other activities going on simultaneously. Also, more bridge tables, and additional file cabinets will <br /> be needed. With each passing day, needs evolve for additional pieces of furnishings. Jim expects the <br /> furniture expense to bottom out at$90,000. <br /> He reported that the lounge furniture is due to be delivered the third week of February. <br /> Suggestions for furniture additions/changes: addition of a small convenience table in the Ladies Room; <br /> replacement of the pedestal in the Board Room with a floor plant. <br /> LANDSCAPING. <br /> Seed vs Sod. Ed Adams reported that all landscaping activity was on hold until spring. Irving Goldberg <br /> suggested using sod grass in front of the building in place of seeding the area. After discussion, the <br /> committee agreed that this was the best way to proceed. Ed Adams will get price estimates on sod for <br /> the area. <br /> Lightning Protection. Ed Adams reported on bids he has received from two firms that specialize in <br /> installation of lightning protection for buildings. <br /> 1. Boston Lightning Rod Company, in Dedham, MA. <br /> $3800 to ground the rod above the cupola <br /> $$4220 to ground the entire building <br /> 2. Mike Baker, in Dartmouth, MA. <br /> $3610 to ground the rod above the cupola <br /> $10,000 to ground the entire building <br /> Mike Baker requires a set of building blueprints before he can finalize his $10,000 price. <br /> Discussion followed as to whether or not lightning protection was a necessity. Mr. Virgilio stated that a <br /> full lightning protection system is not mandatory, and is no guarantee, in any event, that the building <br /> would not be struck by lightning. He further stated that having a lightning rod on top of the building does <br /> not guarantee prevention of attracting lightning to the rod. <br /> Irving Goldberg suggested that the committee table any motion on lightning protection until a firm <br /> proposal from Mike Baker is received. Joyce Mason will be asked to look into whether installation of a <br /> lightning protection system would translate into a break in insurance costs on the building.
