planning the meditation section. The Abutters are asking that more trees be planted to hide
the parking lot from their property view. Iry Goldberg stated that in order to plant more trees,
the scrub trees currently in place need to be removed. The Town has stated that they do not
want to take down any more trees. This is an issue that will need to be addressed in the
coming months.
Lightning Protection. Ed Adams reported that he had forwarded a set of blueprints to Mike
Baker at the company in Dartmouth, for an estimate of lightning protection for the entire
Senior Center building. The estimate received was$11,000, providing he will be able to get
into the cupola.
Discussion followed as to whether or not the committee wanted to go forward with
installation of the lightning protection. Irving Goldberg stated that in his past experience in
the electronics business and in the installation of lightning protection, he had never
experienced a loss from lightning in the buildings where the protection was installed. The
cone of protection is 100 feet, which would indicate that 4 rods would be needed for the
senior center. The committee decided that it would be a wise investment to insure the safety
of a building that was worth $2.5 million. Ed Adams will go back to Mike Baker and inform
him we hope to have Town approval to go forward with the protection project within the next
two weeks.
FUND RAISING
Irving Goldberg reported that future fundraising projects for the Senior Center include the golf
tournament on June 6"'at Quashnet Valley Country Club, a kitchen shower, and a crafts fair
some time in August. Bricks and coverlets also are still being sold.
Irving Goldberg announced that he will be out of town from February 26th until his return on
March 6th, Vice Chairman Ed Adams will assume the responsibilities of the Chairman during
his absence.
The next meeting of the Senior Center Building Committee was scheduled for Wednesday,
March 16d, at 11:00 AM at the Mashpee Senior Center. As there was no further business,
the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
in G. Schlo hm
Recording cretary
3
