Irrigation Installation. Dig Safe needs to be informed that markers for utility lines are needed
only around the building perimeter. Ernest Virgilio offered to be available when Dig Safe is
scheduled for the markings for the irrigation to ensure that Dig Safe excludes ground marking on
the asphalt, and includes marking for the area where trees and shrubs are to be planted.
Lightning Protection—Ed Adams. Irving Goldberg received from Ed Adams copies of bids
from three companies for the lightning protection installation. The low bidder is Baker Electrical,
with a bid of$11,000 for lightning protection for the entire building. $3,500 is the cost to ground
the cupola rod.
Thrift Shop Move—Irving Goldberg. Irving Goldberg stated that the main concern in the short
range is to direct our irrigation and landscaping people away from the area in which we will be
working. Ernest Virgilio will be marking the area and will handle this concern. It will be marked
by outside perimeter stakes. The building exterior will be coordinated to match that of the Senior
Center, i.e., roof shingles, color etc. The Shop will have a separate phone line. There will be a
poured concrete apron around the front, with picnic tables placed outside the building. Window
air conditioners from the old Thrift Shop building will be reinstalled in the new Thrift Shop. Yet to
be determined is what type of grass will be used around the building. Power lines for the Shop
will be coming from the Boys and Girls Club. Still to be done is the repair of damage done to the
Boys and Gins Club grounds when digging occurred to pick up power and telephone lines for the
Center. Loam and seed will need to be replaced. Ernest Virgilio stated that if any further damage
occurs to the Boys and Girls Club property when power and telephone lines are installed to the
Thrift Shop, loam and seed will be replaced.
PARKING LOT LIGHTING.
Ernest Virgilio reported that he has two bids, both for$1225, to purchase and install 5 shields for
the lights in the parking lot. The charge will be covered by funds from the Contingency Fund.
BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND JANITORIAL SERVICE.
We have agreed with Joyce Mason to delay until October any decision on how this service will be
handled, whether in-house or an outside service.
FUND RAISING.
Plans are underway for the Senior Center benefit golf tournament, scheduled for June 6'". The
tournament is to be held at Quashnet Valley Country Club, at$125 per player. Prizes are coming
in from local businesses and other local golf clubs. A raffle and silent auction are also planned. It
will be an 8:30 AM shotgun play, with lunch provided at the Quashnet Valley Grille after golf.
Chairman of the event, Jim Chisholm, is hoping to have 100 players sign up, and expects to net
$50,000, which will go toward landscaping expenses. Non golfers will be most-welcome to assist
as volunteers the day of the event.
The next meeting of the Senior Center Building Committee was scheduled for Wednesday, May
11, 2005, at 10:30 AM at the Senior Center. As there was no further business, the meeting was
adjourned at 11:55 AM.
Respectfully submitted,
Ina G. Schlo hm
Recording retary
2
