{
i
Review of Architect's Layout(see attachment A for JCA current layout)
Jim Long's comments included the following:
1) Current plan calls for a Great Room seating capacity of 400, with a layout for just 87 parking
spaces. Do we need a room with 400 capacity? If so, we need at least 120 parking spaces. The
committee agreed that because the Mashpee senior population is growing, we do need to plan for a
large capacity room, and therefore, we do need to plan for more parking spaces.
2) Current plan calls for a partitioned wall between the Great Room and the Arts &Crafts room. With
traffic back and forth from the arts and crafts room with projects which can be messy, into a nicely
carpeted Great Room, is problematic. Also, the Arts&Crafts room has the most accessible locale in
the Center, and it is not the most important activity for Mashpee seniors. The committee was in
agreement with this comment.
3)Jim floated the idea of having the Great Room planned as a Community Center, with the Senior
Center directly adjacent to it. This would allow seniors to have outside groups use the Great Room
immediately, without the burden of the five-year restriction from the grant. The committee reaction to
this idea was negative. The Selectmen have already approved funding for the Senior Center to
include the Great Room.
4) Current plans for Jim's office location in the office area is not ideal. His office location is
inaccessible to the seniors who will be using the Center. Both Jim and Lynne Waterman want to
have offices located close to the activity areas of the building so that seniors will have easy access to
them.
5) Bathrooms—the new locale of the bathrooms is a concern
6) Lobby area is too big. With a generous sized lounge, do we need the big lobby?
Iry Goldberg's comments:
1)The elevation plan is unacceptable.
2)The rooffine is unattractive, cumbersome, too many peaks. Also, it is a very expensive design.
3)JCA needs to forget about making the Center look like Mashpee Commons, with the 'Nantucket'
feel.
The next meeting of the Committee is scheduled for Thursday, May 16'", 2002, at 10:00 AM, at the
Mashpee Town Hall, Meeting Room 2. JCA will be in attendance at this meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:10 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Ina G. Schlbbohm
Recording Secretary
attachment
I
