LEISURE SERVICES ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING <br />SEPTEMBER 28, 2004 <br />MASHPEE TOWN HALL - 6:30 PM <br />Present: <br />Gus Frederick, Molly Reis, Don Myers, Reid Riberdy, Heidi McLaughlin, Peggy Geary, <br />Jean Young <br />I. Opening — The meeting opened at 6:40PM. Due to lack of active members, <br />there was no quorum. Gus said that he is trying to build up the Committee. <br />Last year the Committee only met once. Gus introduced the staff from <br />Leisure Service's office. <br />IL Communications — The following items were discussed. Don Myers asked if <br />the members have formally resigned. Gus will try to get letters from them. <br />Gus was putting ads in the paper looking for new members. <br />Gus passed out an information sheet showing what the Department staff does. <br />Gus went over the Article for the October Town meeting to fill the vacant <br />part-time position. Gus explained that person does all the scheduling for <br />facility usage at the school and does the invoicing and helps with coverage <br />over at the school. Gus passed out the description of this part-time <br />Administrative Clerk's position. We work with many world-renowned <br />professionals and are the middle person for their Audio Visual needs. <br />Gus went over the Department Goals. A discussion took place on the Senior <br />Center building that will be vacated shortly. Because of the needs of many <br />town employees for child care, there is a need for full-time day care for <br />infant/toddlers. Gur discussed the possibility of combining our preschool <br />programs with an infant/toddler day care. Peggy Geary explained that all our <br />preschool programs are well-established and run under the Office for Children <br />guidelines. <br />Don Myers asked if this full-time care would be open for town employees first <br />then open up to outside. A discussion on fees took place. <br />Another item discussed was the lack of field space. Many requests are made <br />to use the fields. There is a plan to expand Heritage Park. Don Myers wanted <br />to know how much expansion capability is at Heritage Park. Molly Reis <br />asked about the tennis courts at the School and discussed other possible areas <br />in town for fields. <br />Gus mentioned that we use the school for our summer day camp. "There is <br />some land on the north side of Mashpee/Wakeby Pond that he would like to <br />find out about. <br />
