LEISURE SERVICES ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING NOVEMBER 30, 2004 6:30 PM AT QUASHNET SCHOOL LIBRARY Present: Scott Sousa, Little League; Shawn McDonough and John Livingston, Soccer; Patrick Ball, Football; Don Myers, Reid Riberdy, Gus Frederick, Heidi McLaughlin No official meeting took place due to lake of quorum. The following items were discussed. Gus mentioned that there was a new member of the Advisory Council, Lorraine Murphy. However, she was not able to be in attendance. Last month a discussion took place with Katherine Laurent of DPW about the expansion at I leritage Park. The next Capital Improvement Committee meeting will prioritize list of improvements. If Committee decides that particular item does not warrant being on the budget then a Warrant Article would have to be submitted first or second Monday in February for May Town Meeting. Gus showed plan of proposed new ball field. The issue is not with parking but with field use. Plan by DPW is to start doing some leveling during the winter. Discussed sod versus planting grass seed and time frame involved. The group from youth sports would like to see a committee which includes youth sports representatives notjust selectmen. Each representative gave information pertaining to their group. Patrick Ball from Football cannot play at high school anymore. Proposed to fix field by Quashnet — lined up people to volunteer. Always trying to figure out where they would be playing. Biggest issue has been parking. Approximately 230 kids involved ages 7 — 15. Shawn McDonough from Soccer group mentioned they use to play out at New Seabury until they expanded their driving range. They have no fields that are theirs. In the fall they use Rte. 130 field but in the Spring they are moved around a lot. Now they are at Barnstable County Fair Grounds to practice and have games. Scott from Little League mentioned that the Little League groups are always trying to get a field on Saturdays. There are 50 teams with 25 games. They share soccer fields. There are not enough fields to have practices. Babe Ruth is also growing. Gus discussed how difficult it is to schedule fields as there are more and more groups. Don Myers asked the group what their needs were. Pop Warner feels that they are all set. Soccer needs two fields. Softball feels that two feels would be great. A long discussion of field expansion took place. Don Myers mentioned a Warrant Article needs to explain in detail in terms people can understand. Important to get better understanding of what the costs are. Gus will email
