LEISURE SERVICES ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING <br />OCTOBER 26, 2004 <br />QUASHNET SCHOOL LIBRARY - 6:30 PM <br />Present: Katherine Laurent — DPW <br />Scott Sousa, Kevin Galvin — Little League <br />M. Ball — Pop Warner <br />Shawn McGinnis, Chris Dimino — Babe Ruth <br />Shaun McDonough, John Livingston, Chris Shute, MYSO <br />Also Present: Gus Frederick — Leisure Services <br />There was no quorum for the Leisure Services Advisory Council Meeting <br />A discussion took place among the representatives of the youth sports organizations in town. Gus talked <br />about the needs to establish goals for the expansion of the fields. <br />Katherine showed a diagram of the Master Plan of the multi-purpose field. They are looking to get <br />additional money. A new well and irrigation system will be needed. Katherine passed out a copy of <br />Heritage Park Proposed Capital Improvement Program. Plan to petition Article for May Town Meeting <br />put together by different groups. <br />It was discussed that no lighting has been proposed for the fields at this time in the Master Plan. It does <br />show plan for concession stand and restroom. Chris mentioned that storage would be a big issue to <br />incorporate in the plan. <br />A discussion took place on the use of the field behind Town Hall. Katherine said that it was not a <br />regulation field. It maybe a good field for T -Ball. Gus discussed that it can be a problem when sports <br />teams play out of season. The possible costs of irrigation took place. It was suggested to look towards <br />outside donations. Katherine suggested that any definite commitments be submitted to the Selectmen. <br />Priority is to get two open fields done with the irrigation. Scott mentioned the need for permanent <br />fencing to be put up. A discussion on irrigation took place. <br />Chris mentioned that the groups would rather the fields and not the paved parking lot. Gus <br />proposed to try for two multi-purpose fields and a gravel parking area. Katherine said the <br />intention is to rough grade this during this winter. Katherine said that it would be approximately <br />$15,000 - $20,000 for irrigation and $50,000 for the well. <br />Gus said that Katherine has been working with him to keep up-to-date with field usage. The <br />group discussed other areas in town with available land. <br />The next meeting will take place November 30, 2004, at Quashnet School, 6:30 PM <br />
