•
he has but he also has to consider the environment where our kids
go to school .
Mr. Greelish stated it is significant that the Committee has not
heard any negative comments from the 151 area of town .
Mr. Dinizio stated at the Saturday open forum the Committee did
hear negative comments as well as at the PTO meeting from many
parents.
Mr . Kinney asked, if the 151 site is chosen, would the town
planner or Selectmen or someone in town work with the community
to put forward a plan to acquire this land?
Tom stated he would love to see that land remain open space, they
tried in 1988 and it failed. The town policy since , 1987 has
been not to buy any conservation land because they cannot afford
it.
Mr. Dinizio wished this avenue were pursued months ago when this
process was started, rather then now, at the 11th hour.
Ms. Ahlgren explained, at the PTO meeting the Committee asked for
a show of hands in favor of one site and it was about 50-50.
After discussing the sites, the issues and the concerns of the
parents, they did another vote and it went predominately for the
Center site. They are both very good sites and both have there
limitations.
Bill Jones stated he appreciates what has been brought before the
Committee tonight but as parents , grandparents and great
grandparents we have to think of what is the best environment for
our children to grow and develop into good citizens. Take the
frame of reference of a parent, leaving out the complex
environmental issues. The challenge this Community has is what
will be the best environment for our kids to be educated in.
OLD BUSINESS
Chairman Dinizio told the Committee that the RFP for both the
Architect and Project Manager have gone out.
ADJOURNMENT
** Ms. Ahlgren made a motion to adjourn at 9 : 50 p.m. Ms.
Mills seconded the motion . All members in favor.**
NEXT SCHEDULED MEETING: Nov . 9 , 1993 at 7 : 30 p.m.
Minutes submitted by Arden R .
Cadrin,
•
6
 J
