complicating factor at that site .
Louisa Oakley , asked if they did research on accidents and the
most dangerous intersections?
Mr. Franceschi responded that they did .
Ms. Oakley said she would rather have her kid walk on 151 than
Rte 130 . It is as much of a highway as 151 .
Jack McGee, Meetinghouse Road . He sees a savings of $250-300,000
at the 151 site right off the top. He agrees the $175 , 000 for
water is extremely conservative. There is added expense for
improvements to South Sandwich Rd . The center site is $500 , 000
more, at least. Has anyone done a 21E on the dump site? He
heard from an elderly resident he witnessed toxic waste being
buried there many years ago.
This is a beautiful unique, old Cape Cod area. There is the
Mashpee River Corridor , the Trustee of Reservations land , many
deer in the area, Noisy Hole is a watering hole. The high school
will disrupt the natural order of things in this area. It seems
this Committee has made their decision but he does not think they
will find many people who agree with the decision.
Molly O'Connell , Fawn Road . She thinks this would be a good area
• for a high school . She asked if the school can use well water?
Mr. Dinizio stated town water would be required .
Mary Clair Dinizio, Old Colony Road. She does not think that
everyone in this part of town has negative feelings about a high
school coming here. Many people with children feel it would be
very positive. We realize at both sites trees must be removed
and animals disturbed . It will be something positive for this
part of town , it is something for everyone to be proud of and
there is support for this school to be here.
James Kinney, Saddleback Road. He would like to see the
population shift in the future because then the busing argument
would be a diminishing return. Saving money on the water main
and site construction costs is a major issue because at town
meeting we argue over $1 ,000 worth of raises. Because the 151
site would force a more compact design , it seems it would have
less of an environmental impact. At 151 site, there are no
houses from the rotary to Johns Pond center, the road could be
widened without major impact. That could not happen on Rte 130
without having to cut down a lot of trees and effecting a lot of
houses.
You said the 130 site would provide same job opportunities as the
rotary area, because the town is not acquiring the commercial
land . Are you suggesting, in addition to the high school , there
will be big commercial development in the area to provide jobs
• for a large number of people?
At the last meeting we heard the Wampanoags have some cultural ,
historical and environmental concerns about the Center site which
7
