She asked if they knew of the old shooting range in this
vicinity?
Mr. Franceschi said he was not aware of that.
Ms . Peters asked if the Committee will consider that before the
acquisition? .
Tom stated the town already owns that property. It is located
near the underground river valley and that area is to be avoided
anyway.
Ms . Peters asked if any consideration was given to the fact 151
site is closer to the Police station , given town meeting just
funded a police liaison in the schools? She asked why they did
not measure the distance of the present school to the sites, so
there can be sharing of facilities - they could use the
auditorium and pool at the high school .
If it is not built at the Mashpee center site , the 65 houses
would be the equivalent of 260 people which is very different
from 1350 students plus staff.
Jayne Hendricks, 73 South Sandwich Rd . Previously the architect
mentioned the percentage of students who could walk or ride bikes
to school . She thinks most high school students use cars . So.
Sandwich Rd is a very winding , narrow road . High school students
racing down it in cars will make it even worse.
. When this center site was proposed at town meeting for
conservation land , it did not pass by only 2 votes .
This report (handed out this evening) says see traffic report in
the appendix but there is no appendix .
The Committee explained the complete report will be available in
the Selectmen ' s office tomorrow morning .
Ms . Hendricks thinks a high school and elementary school should
be at completely separate locations, they do not mix.
Community impact, center site says , on the matrix , it is
accessible for after hours community use but that is not listed
for the 151 site, why not?
Mr. Franceschi stated it could be used but the implication is
there is a need for late busing and it would be less available.
Alexa Fox, Tri Town Circle . She asked why they are proposing an
elementary school at the same site with a high school ? She agrees
they do not mix.
Mr . Dinizio explained the site is large enough that they will be
far apart.
Ms. Fox asked why the playing fields are so close together at the
151 site when it is such a large site?
Mr. Franceschi explained they were just looking at the capacity
of the site. They are reserving space for a future elementary
school .
The Center site, because of the rolling topography, needs more
space to allow for grading.
• Tom Fudala added at the 151 site, 50-60 acres is within or south
of the power line so it is cut off from the rest of the site.
Mr. Dinizio added the proposed fine arts center is another
6
