1 _ -
that is helpful and people should have gotten involved before
tonight.
She read a letter from her husband , Robert Mills, a former member
of this Committee: As a former member of this Committee and a
member of the Wampanoag tribe of Mashpee it is my firm belief
that the Committee has always acted sensitively to the Native
American concerns. The meetings have always been open to the
public . There are no issue which need to be addressed regarding
unfair treatment or racism. As an individual and tribal member I
am favorably of the 130 site. The tribal council has never
sought my or other tribal members input.
Donna Crowley , So. Sandwich Rd . People have to stop and think
that these kids are young adults . They have different needs then
elementary school kids. At 151 they will have access to the
library, the police station is there if needed, the ambulances,
jobs . 151 has endangered species . Who will the performing arts
center be performing for - the endangered species?
She told Mr . Franceschi that he does not have to worry about the
taxes, you don ' t have to worry about what it will cost us. You
treat it like change in our pocket. Many of us are having a hard
time paying our taxes.
. Corinne Wickle, River Rd . It would have been easier for her to
make a decision if the monetary value had been assigned for the
differences in the sites i .e water, land acquisition .
On both the sites, it seem a lot of the land will not be
utilized . Would it be better to look at a site that is smaller?
Why are we looking at sites which contain so much unusable land?
Richard Halpern , Chairman of the Water District. A 12 inch main
up Rte 130 is about 2 miles , they could never do that for
$175 ,000 . If you go up Noisy Hole Rd it is a lot of property
that cannot be bettered so the tax payers will have to pay for
it.
**Ms. Ahlgren made a motion that the Committee accept the
report of DRA and support the recommendation of the
Mashpee Center site and request the Selectmen place the
site on the warrant for the December 4, 1993 town meeting .
Janice Mills seconded the motion .
Discussion :
Mr. Greelish stated there are a few more items he would like the
Committee to look at before taking a vote.
Mr. Dinizio stated they have had 6 months to go over all this
information . All in favor of the motion :
**Peter Dinizio, Merry Sue Ahlgren, Bill Martiros and Janice
Mills in favor. S. Greelish and Bill Jones abstained. **
• The Committee then went into executive session .
9
