•
Environmental : dump site raises concerns about future costs .
Mr. Greelish thinks further testing will probably be substantial .
At a minimum a clay cap will be needed for the old dump .
Mr . Franceschi agreed further exploration will be needed on the
Center site .
The Committee discussed the possible impact on the T-5 well at
the Center site and P-1 well at 151 site .
There are endangered species on the 151 site (osprey, moth and
grass) . This should be added to the matrix .
Mr. Dinizio discussed the possibility of the Town acquiring the
entire site and because the high school needs only 80 acres, the
Selectmen can make an offer to the Natives to leave the remaining
120 acres as conservation land.
Mr. Griffin does not think the Committee should change its
direction at this point in the process, at the 11th hour .
Mr. Greelish thinks it is appropriate for Mr. Dinizio to suggest
his approach to the Selectmen .
Janice Mills stated the town needs a high school . The best way to
accomplish that may be to go only for the land for the high
school and not worry about the elementary school .
• Mr. Dinizio said he will make this suggestion , as a private
citizen , not on behalf of the Committee. The Committee did not
have a problem with that.
Deidre Greelish told the Committee the Finance Committee is
concerned with the cost of capping the old dump site and the
possibility of an archeological find causing a delay in the
project. There are so many less pitfalls at the 151 site. 3 of
the 7 members are ready to vote for the 151 site .
Cost: Mr . Dinizio asked Mr . Greelish if he is on board with the
$27 . 7 million? Mr . Greelish responded that he is not. He, Joe
and Bill went through the Marstons Mills Middle School . They are
using top notch materials and the construction cost is $93 per sq
foot- not including furnishings.
Historical Issues : Mr. Franceschi explained in the Cahoon plan ,
when Mashpee was divided up each man , woman and child was given
60 acres but first they reserved common land which were burial
grounds or open space. The Center site was not set aside for
common land.
** Mr . Griffin made a motion to adjourn at 11 : 50 p.m. Bill
Martiros seconded the motion . All members were in
favor . **
• Next schedul/led meeting: Monday at 5 : 30 , Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
6
