t r ti.
• It is good for security, could open only one cluster for night
community school use.
- Ring corridor, compact organization . Classrooms would be on
the outside to get natural light. Some spaces may be harder to
control the access. More efficient to run. Dr. DeMoura
mentioned it may lead to. air quality problems down the road.
- Courtyard, could be a series of courtyards . There is
efficiency of circulation. Courtyard environment is enjoyable but
may be distracting to classrooms.
- Campus layout, building connected only by walkways. See this
layout more in southern climates. Supervision could be a problem.
Dr. DeMoura stated the building has to be community accessible.
He likes the idea of all classrooms having access to outside
window space. Layout #2 it may be difficult to maintain everyone
in their "house" .
Mr. Franceschi stated the more compact the building the more it
has to be on one level .
Bill Jones mention it will be used as a junior/senior high at
first and will want to keep those groups separated .
That becomes a problem for the principal , you don't want to
design the building for that.
Orientation of the site will also effect choice of schemes.
• There is a wide spread of construction costs in these layouts.
Mr. Franceschi asked the Committee what they envision presenting
to town meeting (for the building)?
The Committee agreed a "block" with very little information about
the building itself. The block must be identical for both sites.
The Committee reviewed the reduced building layouts on the
various site plans.
The Committee discussed the type of information to be presented
at the informational meetings.
Bill Jones stated it can be approached the same way it was for
the Middle school addition , they prepared a 5 page handout with
graphs showing the need, demographics and the solution. Chairman
Dinizio then reviewed it page by page at town meeting.
Ms. Ahlgren suggested taking this to a smaller group first to see
the responses and give the Committee a lead of where to go with
the presentation.
Mr. Greelish agreed the PTO is an appropriate first meeting and
then go onto a larger forum. The Committee can present what they
are doing now and how they are doing it.
The open forum meeting can be announced at the October town
meeting.
•
3
