• MASHPEE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 28, 1993
TOWN HALL
Present: Paul Griffin , Bill Jones, Merry Sue Ahlgren, Bill
Martiros, Janice Mills, Steve Greelish, Peter Dinizio, Joe Polito
Greg Taylor, Tom Fudala, Dr. DeMoura
Absent: Linda Murtha
Meeting convened at 4: 15 p.m.
MINUTES
Mr. Griffin made a motion to accept the minutes of 9/21 /93 . Ms .
Ahlgren seconded the motion . All members were in favor.
REPORT ON MEETING WITH SGSB
Chairman Dinizio explained he and Bill Jones attended the meeting
with the State on Friday. The State explained the requirements
have changed and the building has to be fully designed by June 1 ,
1994; full construction documents are required. There is no room
for delay in this schedule. A representative from DRA was also
at the meeting. He said they could do it in that time frame.
Mr. Jones explained legislation has been passed which has frozen
• the application list. All those projects must be fully funded
first and then Mashpee will have first priority .
It is his opinion having the building designed by June is an
extremely risky procedure and he is not sure it is attainable
without serious compromise in the durability of the building.
Mr. Griffin said Carl Franceschi explained to him the State
understands there will be changes in the building design. They
produce a set of drawings they call "finished" for the State but
they are not fully checked and ready to go out to bid . The town
can ask for modifications.
Mr. Dinizio explained to start the project, and to bond it the
town must have construction documents submitted and the town must
appropriate the money. Mashpee will have to do that in December.
The amount asked for will be based on the State formula.
Presently the State funds $144 per sq . foot. Your project is
locked it at the rate at the time of construction .
Mashpee will get reimbursed for a core facility for 1350 students
with classrooms for 1 ,000 students and the State allows for
extras i .e. special education rooms, community uses.
Mr. Dinizio stated this meeting enforced the fact there is no
room for delay. There is flexibility in price. The Committee
• must ask the town to trust them not to overspend . The Committee
must fix a budget at first and then stick with it; turn back any
1'
