• at this.
Mr. Polito explained the architect will be so busy trying to
design a school and develop the best possible arrangement,
materials will be secondary . He cannot be bogged down by the
Committee' s fanaticism of a certain item. This Committee does
not have time to do investigation .
Mr . Jones mentioned the Committee will have a lot of
investigative work to do when choosing an Architectural firm.
Help from someone like this would be a god send .
Ms. Ahlgren stated she would like a person that answers to the
Committee, like the educational consultant. The Committee can
ask the architects (when interviewing them) how they would work
with a Project Manager who is working for the Committee.
The Committee discussed how much a project manager may cost.
Mr. Jones thinks they are only needed for the design phase; will
need this service for the next year at the most. It will cost at
tops $100, 000 .
Mr. Dinizio stated Mr. Griffin recommend hiring by phases , with
Phase I for the design phase and an option in the contract to
retain the person as a clerk of the works during the construction
phase.
• Mr. Dinizio will ask that firm to come to the next meeting to
discuss their services. He will talk to Bob Writenhour .about
procedure (can the Committee invite them) .
Greg Taylor stated the Committee will be spending $1 .4-$2 million
on an Architect, they need to hire someone they are very
comfortable with . He thinks they will have a cost consultant
working with them and you have to have the Architect do that cost
comparison. The architect will not be selected on the price and
will not be bashful with the fee. You better be happy with the
person you are spending $2 million on .
Mr. Polito stated that it not the point - the architect will do
his job but this Committee has to review all of that and we need
someone to help do that.
The Committee agreed they want to invite someone in and get more
information on these types of services and they agreed they need
some level of service to be determined and defined.
**Mr. Jones made a motion that the Committee take the
following steps: invite a representative from the
construction management firm ( info received last week
from P. Griffin) to give the Committee an outline of the
scope of their services and assist us in the choice of
whether this is or is not an appropriate level of
• service. Ms. Ahlgren seconded the motion.
2
