TOWN OF MASHPEE
INSPECTIONS
TO: Mashpee High School Building Committee
FROM: William F. Hauck, Building Inspector
DATE: October 20, 1993
SUBJECT: RFP for structural review
I had been talking to a Stuart Snyder P.E. a structural
consulting engineer, out of Chatham. The following is a
paraphrasing of some of his thoughts and a rough estimate
for structural cost. -
The architect's fee is around 6% of the cost of the
building, the structural engineer's fee is a 14% to 16% of
• the architects fee, and the structural peer review fee is
15% of the structural engineers.
Architects fee 60 or .06 of project cost
Engineers fee 6% x 15% or .06 x . 15 = . 009
Review fee 6% x 15% x 15% or .06 x .15 x . 15 = . 00135
Mr. Snyder suggests the cost be included in the Archi-
tects bid fee, but have an independent account line con-
trolled totally by the school committee with the reviewer
answering only to the school committee. This will avoid any
conflict of interest.
He also suggests that the review engineers be selected
early in the design process so he can work in the prelimi-
nary design stage, catch a design flaw early if there is one
and avoid a costly redesign at a later date in the process
(time to us, money to the engineer) .
Mr. Snyder would be happy to meet with the committee to
aid and discuss any questing you may have.
cc: Snyder Associates
