MASHPEE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING COMMITTEE MINUTES
MONDAY , APRIL 11 , 1994
TOWN HALL
Present: Bill Martiros, Merry Sue Ahlgren , Bill Jones , Michael
Pare, Peter Dinizio
Dr. Lincoln DeMoura
( Paul Griffin was attending Project Manger negotiations being
held simultaneously)
MINUTES
** Merry Sue made a motion to accept the minutes of March
29 , 1994, as amended. Bill Jones seconded the motion .
All members were in favor 5-0 . **
CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS
Peter explained that SMMA originally submitted a very expensive
fee proposal . The team told them they may have to go to the
second choice . Paul Griffin did a very good job negotiating them
down to the fee we had budgeted . Their final fee proposal is for
$1 . 45 million .
Peter presented SMMA ' s scope of services to Committee members.
Tonight the Selectmen will vote whether or not they want to enter
into a contract with SMMA. Peter has head there are some
problems going on with Finance Committee members.
Bill Jones said for a job this size , the fee is not out of line
at all . He is surprised they did come down that far with their
fee.
Peter said some things were eliminated from their scope because
they will probably be included under the project manager's scope .
SMMA got down to our budget. We were pretty happy with that.
Bill Martiros does not see it as a problem. If there is a
concern , we should listen to the concern and maybe it has
legitimacy . There is only one way to find out.
Peter said you wish , when the Selectmen send you a negotiating
team, that they speak for the Selectmen . There are people who
did not want to sit on the negotiating team and then they decide
they don ' t like what was negotiated , that is not good faith .
PROJECT MANAGER . The negotiating team began negotiating with
Chartwell today on their scope of services . It is in a very
preliminary stage. No prices are being discussed yet.
The team consists of Nancy Caffyn , George Costa, Bob Whritenour,
Greg Taylor , Paul Griffin and Peter Dinizio.
Greg Taylor sent a letter to the Selectmen re: his idea of a
project manger. His view is that of a clerk of the works . That is
1
