Joe and Paul agreed it is more expensive, but not by much . Should the architect cost both roofs or should the Committee choose one today? Ray would like them to choose one . Their recommendation is either the vaulted or off center pick is good . Paul , Merry Sue , Bill Martiros, Steve, Joe , Michael and Janice chose option IA- off center peaked roof . Bill Jones said his decision would be based on cost. Peter explained when talking with people in town , they liked the dative American theme . How does this roof style lend itself to that theme? Ray said they will not have to focus on the administration/media center "shape" . The entry area and shape can carry the message. It can be done with accents throughout the building and with color. Janice does not think a lot of people know what a long house is . Joe said the building is a school , not a long house. The native american feel can come from the inside . Peter asked , when approaching the building , is it possible to see the pitch in front and the slope in back? Ray explained if you did see it that way , you would perceive the building being much bigger/higher . Bill Martiros asked about material options? Ed Frenette said they are not yet prepared to make a recommendation . Bill Jones suggested they look at the metal roof on the high school in Plymouth . ** Janice made a motion to accept option 1A. (off center peak ) as the preferred roof scheme . Merry Sue seconded the motion . All members were in favor . ** Joe said he resisted the "boat" form for administration area. He would like something more reasonable, but allowing the theme to come through . A simple form can achieve what you want. Ray said they will take some time to look at it. They can cut off an end, round it, widen it, etc . Peter agreed to let the architects run with it. Ed said the project has come together quickly . They have made a lot of progress . This area is one the design team is still discussing . Merry Sue asked if she could take the layout to the middle school staff , who get out on Friday , for them to review and start discussing furnishing . They can give input on what will go into these spaces . We made decisions based on 7 & 8th grades an she wants the staff to know the Committee is thinking of them. The Committee agreed not to bring it to the community yet , not until the configuration is resolved . 3
