DISCUSSION WITH ARCHITECT Today ' s discussion is primarily on roofs . They brought a model with various roofs . Ed Frenette suggested the Committee meet with the architects every two weeks , going forward . The design team needs more than 4 days between meetings. He also suggested the next meeting be on Wednesday , July 6th instead of Tues . the 5th . THERE IS NO MEETING NEXT WEEK (JUNE 28 ) . The next scheduled meeting is Wednesday , July 6th , with the architects . The Tuesday , July 12th meeting is Committee only . Ray said they have addressed the concerns from last week - secondary entry, extra room in the health suite, roofs . The next step will be to blow up the floor plan to review hallway , door locations , etc . Presently , the sq . footage is 182 , 500 , without the sewage treatment plant. Michael Pare asked for small prints of the layout for subcommittee use . Ray presented a rendering of the 7 & 8th grade secondary entry . He said they are happy with it . The material has not yet been decided . It is all a function of dollars . The way it is drawn on this plan , the roofing material is preform metal panels. Paul ' s concerns about metal are the noise during rain and corrosion problems from acid rain. Norris McLeod said they have used it on 4 schools . With a kynar finish it holds up well . Ray presented models to look at the different roof forms. He prepared a vaulted , long house roof . Bill Martiros doesn ' t think the "arrow" portion of the building has that much significance . Ed Frenette said they are looking for a shape which " invites" you into both entrances and if they can , they will try to provide some symbolism. Peter mentioned that Joan Tavares was sensitive about the arrowhead symbolism. Ed suggested the design team study it. It does not "have to be" this form. Ray said today the roof shapes are more important. They would like to come to closure on the roof. He presented the other choices : an off center, sloped , Cape Cod roof . The slope works nice with the dining area and will work well with the theater - higher roof over the stage . Paul asked about cost between this and vaulted roof? Ray said he does not think there is much difference between the two. Ray then presented a roof , moving the peak back to the center, this give a typical , gabled roof . This is Ray and Ed ' s least favorite. It does not say Cape Cod . Janice likes the off center peak because of the possibilities in the theater ; it lends itself to what is needed . Paul thought the vaulted roof looks like there are additions to the building . 2
