Mr. Griffin asked what the State allowed per sq foot for the
Brookline school?
Mr. Allen stated they received 60% reimbursement.
Steve Greelish asked them to elaborate on their statement about
re-cycling grey water.
Mr. Procos said they will work with the firm of HW Moran on
designing the STP, they have a lot of experience on the Cape.
There is a lot of water used in schools with the potential to be
re-used for irrigation . Reals and Thompson, civil engineers have
many cost effective recommendations.
Merry Sue asked about their alternatives to cinder block walls?
Mr. Madsen said the advantage of block is apparent but any future
wiring is very difficult with block. A combination of materials
can be used.
Joe Polito asked if they used most of the site, on their
schematic site plan?
Mr. Gund said they used nothing south of the power lines. Your
attitude towards 151 is the major issue. There is more than
enough room to accommodate all of the uses.
Joe asked what they had in mind for an auditorium? Can that level
of detail (as seen in the slide presentation) be done less
elaborately?
Mr. Gund said most auditoriums are faceless spaces. They prefer
to arrange a more communal setting. It is easier for students to
perform on a stage like that.
Carol Jacobson asked if they could give a ballpark range of sq
foot costs from the program presented to them?
Mr. Madsen said they have seen the consultants report which
anticipates spending $125 sq foot. They have never seen a client
with enough money. Any where near the $125 is achievable. It
should not be lavish but solid and durable but it should not look
shabby either. You have to make compromises and agree what is
worth it and what you don't want to spend on.
Ms. Jacobson said the Town needs to have something ready for
Sept. 1996 , is that possible?
Mr. Madsen thinks that would be very hard. You would have to
accept that you don't have a lot of time to think about it.
Bob Whritenour asked if in their preliminary site work , have they
worked on a location for the performing arts center? Is it
possible for both to be on that site?
Mr. Gund presented a scheme with both facilities on the site. It
has 1 drive which forks. He suggested some things, like parking,
could be used for both facilities.
Mr. Whritenour asked his comfort level with that, was it a
stretch or could it naturally work?
Mr. Gund said they could naturally work well together. It would
add to both facilities. He is sure there is enough physical
space.
Al Polsi asked if there are savings in a 2 story as opposed to 1
8
