MASHPEE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING COMMITTEE MINUTES <br /> TUESDAY, JANUARY 25, 1994 <br /> MASHPEE MIDDLE SCHOOL <br /> Committee Members Present: Peter Dinizio, Merry Sue Ahlgren, Joe <br /> Polito, Bill Jones, Bill Martiros, Steve Greelish , Paul Griffin, <br /> Michael Pare, Joan Avant Tavares <br /> Absent: Janice Mills, Jayne Hendricks <br /> Also Present: Carol Jacobson, Judy Mills, Nancy Caffyn , Al Polsi <br /> Meeting convened at 4 : 10 p.m. <br /> SYMMES MAINI AND MCKEE ASSOCIATES, INC. <br /> Present: Edward Frenette, C. William Brubaker, Robert Fournier, <br /> Patrick Halm, Daniel Solien , Philip Poinelli , Lucinda Eng, <br /> Richard Foster, Carol Adey <br /> Ed Frenette, Principal/Director of Design presented the Committee <br /> with a package of information and agendas. He introduced the <br /> firm members present and their areas of expertise. <br /> SMMA has 35 years experience. They are a full service <br /> architectural and engineering firm. They employ over 80 <br /> professionals: architects, interior designers, landscape <br /> architects , Engineers- civil , structural mechanical and <br /> electrical . <br /> They propose to work with the firm of Perkins and Will . They are <br /> currently working with them on a new high school in Chelsea. <br /> Perkins and Will is a nationally known firm working on <br /> educational facilities for K-12 . They are consistently receiving <br /> national recognition for their work. <br /> Mr. Frenette spent the last 3 days in Mashpee gathering <br /> information . Site questions still remain, permitting questions <br /> and how many facilities should go on that property. Mr. Solien <br /> will assist on those issue. He has work on Mashpee Commons and <br /> on the proposed performing arts center. Since 1988 he has <br /> provided services to Fields Point, most recently he did the site <br /> planning and field surveying for Stop and Shop project. <br /> Mr. Richard Foster will deal with the nuances of facilities <br /> management. He has worked with SMMA for 20 years. He will help <br /> in the overall management of the project/process. Critical to <br /> the success of the project is the ability to maintain the budget <br /> and determine operation and maintenance costs of the building. <br /> Mr. Frenette said SMMA's success comes from their ability to <br /> listen and then interpret what the client wants. He came to <br /> Mashpee to listen and try to understand what Mashpee wants, and <br /> how they view a successful high school . <br /> Mr. Brubaker presented some slides of SMMA' s past work. <br /> - Evanson, IL - built in the 1920's.
