decision about requiring this Committee to interview 5 more
firms. They asked them to pick just 1 more. He thinks it was
poor judgement on the parents part, specifically because they did
not stay to list to the Finance Committee 10 year plan.
Mr. Dinizio stated they are the only constituency that has not
been heard from. Many other have been pressuring the Selectmen
and they have responded to that and asked this Committee to take
specific action . What is wrong with parents getting vocal? They
want this Committee to be respected and to go about their
business without interference from the Board of Selectmen.
Al stated he is also disappointed in this Committee. When they
heard they had to interview 5 other firms, they should have
called a Saturday meeting and get them all interviewed in 1 day
and you then would have only lost 1 week.
The Committee strongly disagreed with Mr. Polsi . They explained
how much time, outside of their meetings they spend on this,
calling references etc.
Some people are now questioning the 1350 core capacity.
Tom Fudala sent a letter to the Committee explaining how that
figure was derived.
Nancy Caffyn stated the previous committee' s report ( EFNC) stated
those figures were difficult to comprehend and stand behind.
Mr. Dinizio explained Tom's letter is in response to that issue.
He has made a projection based on a range of the population, with
assumptions made. Based on current knowledge and assumption, the
core facilities for 1350 is appropriate, especially considering
the 50-60 year life of the building.
Ms. Caffyn said the previous report never said it was a solid
figure.
She also suggested that Committee's can produce a majority report
and a minority report and also be submitted, it is encouraged.
Mr. Dinizio said Mr. Fudala is a town employee and he still says
1350 is the number for the core facilities. The State has
accepted 1350, using our statistics.
Mr. Jones said if we don't ever fill the high school with 1350,
it can remain junior/senior high school and save the town from
building another elementary school .
Mr . Polsi sated at the time the EFNC report was issued he was
comfortable with the 1350, but a lot of good questions were
raised at that meeting.
** Mr. Griffin made a motion to adjourn at 6:45 p.m. Ms.
Ahlgren seconded the motion. All members were in favor
7-0 .**
NEXT SCHEDULED MEETING: February 1 at 4:00 p.m. Middle School
Minutes submitted by Arden R. Cadrin
8
