Getting the project built <br /> on time and properly depends on the architects ability to work <br /> with the contractor to review all documentation and administer <br /> the site meetings. <br /> Mr. Hoit suggested the Committee contact their references , school <br /> superintendent's etc . In some town 's they have done over 20 <br /> projects . <br /> They presented a sketch of what the school may look like. It is <br /> a series of buildings, of units and shapes, using sloped roofs so <br /> it is in scale. <br /> QUESTIONS <br /> Bill Martiros asked if you can build a good building , brick <br /> outside, block inside, slate roof, sloped roof for $70-80 per <br /> foot? <br /> Mr. Hoit said NO. <br /> Bill showed him a book where there are schools built for that <br /> much. <br /> Mr. Hoit is familiar with the book. Slate is a very expensive <br /> material There are other materials you can get 35-40 years from, <br /> it is not necessary to use slate. There are few States with as <br /> many regulation as this one. In this area of the country $70-80 <br /> is not achievable. The bigger the project the less per sq foot. <br /> This is from their experience doing work all over the country. <br /> Mr. Bradford added that regionally, from a structural standpoint <br /> and HVAC requirements, all add to the sq foot cost. This is a <br /> very expensive area of the country to build in. Prevailing wage <br /> adds to the cost. Mr. Arthur added that structurally there are <br /> more requirements because MA is in a fault area, similar to <br /> California' s. <br /> Mr. Martiros asked how far the setback from 151 was on their <br /> schematic? <br /> It was 150 feet, but there is room to put it back even further. <br /> At 150 feet you can see the building from the road , through the <br /> trees and keep you as far away from the power lines as possible. <br /> Bill asked what is a reasonable distance from the power lines? <br /> Mr. Hoit suggested 300 feet from the playing fields. <br /> Michael Pare asked how they would support the high tech - audio <br /> visual , computer networking , etc. and have they worked with this <br /> before? <br /> Mr. Hoit explained in the latest school building they worked on <br /> all video, computer access, fire alarm were all integrated into <br /> the design as was the monitoring system.
