Nominations for Vice Chairman.
** Merry Sue nominated Steve Greelish for Vice Chairman. Janice
seconded the motion . All members were in favor. **
Discussion with Sound Consultant - Bill Cavanaugh
Bob Fournier said the Committee previously had questions about the sound
system for the auditorium and Mr. Cavanaugh is here to answer any questions
and discuss the sound system.
The Committee received a letter from Michael Pare outlining his concerns
about the system.
Mr. Cavanaugh said the system will be capable of serving all the needed
functions for speech, music, playback , movies and sound. It will be a high
quality professional system. He will prepare the specifications for open
bidding.
Paul said the original design spec was very general , it seems he has not
gotten into the nuts and bolts of the design yet?
Mr. Cavanaugh said that is correct.
Bob said school with a similar system as proposed for Mashpee are Nauset,
Metheun, Tingsboro.
When will he begin the design of the system?
During this next phase - contract documents.
Mr. Cavanaugh said most systems are over driven , you want to supplement the
natural acoustics of the room.
Janice said he needs to see the design of the auditorium first.
She also said acoustical consulting is also needed for the music ad band
room. Will he be doing all that also?
Bob said SMMA's electrical department will design the audio system for the
gym and school as a whole. Mr.Cavanaugh will be consulting on all
acoustical issues.
Janice suggested they confer with Steve Greelish , Mike Pietrowski and Mike
Pare. They all have a lot of expertise in this area.
Paul said there had been a misconception the system had already been
designed.
Joe said creativity is important, don't just mirror another school ' s
system. How creative can he get with the amount of money we have?
Mike Pietrowski offered his comments. He suggested they also give the gym
some consideration for acoustical design .
The TV broadcast room is next to the auditorium, he suggested provisions be
made for audio feed back to the TV room. There is no sense to have 2
separate systems.
The document only has 8 microphone inputs, yet town meeting takes 10
microphones.
A video projection unit should be tied into the sound system, to limit the
number of wires.
Most importantly the system should meet expendability for the next 20
years. Mike said he will work closely with both the architects and
consultant.
Peter said the cafeteria will see a lot of use, will probably hold many
informal gatherings and maybe even town meeting. Has consideration been
given for sound attenuation in that area?
3
