Bob said attenuation has. It will absorb sound. The room does not have a
specially designed audio system. If the Committee wants that, he needs
some parameters for it' s design.
Peter said this is a community building, if people are not comfortable in
the room, they won't use it.
Paul said there are two issue for that room: a. sound issues within the
room and b. a communication system.
Mike Pietrowski will have to talk with the SMMA staff. Maybe the general
public address system can be taped in to.
Mr. Cavanaugh said they are assisting with the entire acoustical
environment, with an extra system for the auditorium.
(Bill Martiros joint the meeting)
Steve discussed putting a conduit in the slab vs. an infra red system.
Maybe the system can go totally wireless, for the cost advantage.
Paul said a conduit is not expensive but he agrees technology should try to
be wireless.
Mr. Cavanaugh said wireless systems have become very advanced in the last
decade, it is just a matter of money.
Merry Sue said acoustics of the TV studio across for the band room have to
be looked at. Can they go on simultaneously? .
Mr. Cavanaugh said that is his charge - isolating sound with petitions,
doors, etc.
Bob said all the spaces will be looked at. Some may need special materials,
that is why Mr.Cavanaugh 's firm was hired .
Paul asked, when they get to the nuts and bolts of the design , please come
back to the Committee with their recommendations. He does not want to be
too far into the design and find out the Committee is not happy.
Bob suggested Mike Pietrowski , Mike Pare, Steve Greelish , SMMA's electrical
representative and Mr. Cavanaugh meet to decide the parameters of the
systems, present it to the Committee and go from there.
Mike Pietrowski suggested the Committee look into getting a 2 year warranty
rather than only a 1 year -depending on the cost.
Paul said an extended warranty is probably not a lot of money.
Bill Hauck said if the auditorium itself is not designed right, forget
about everything else. He has seen auditoriums completely re-done.
Paul said it is Cavanaugh's responsibility that it works.
Joe asked for examples of auditoriums or cafeterias he has done, that are
comparable in size to Mashpee's?
Mr. Cavanaugh said Nauset is about the same size as this auditorium. They
are happy with it.
He has been consulting for over 40 years and involved with hundreds of
auditoriums, all over the country. They did the house system for Great
Woods Center for the Performing Arts, Mechanics Hall in Worcester.
Mike Pietrowski asked if they did any work for George Lucas?
Mr. Cavanaugh said one of his staff works for George Lucus now.
Bill Jones suggested they look at the Matachesse auditorium. The Cape Cod
4
