Mike requested minutes of the Building Committee meetings.
Paul suggested Mike coordinate all meetings with the subconsultants through
Chartwell .
Mike added that he has a vast resource of contacts in the telecommunication
industry.
Bill said some school systems are looking at not having a library in their
school . Maybe this library is obsolete.
Paul said people are not yet ready to give up books.
Steve said maybe the number of books we need in the library gets adjusted
but not eliminated.
(Steve Greelish left the meeting. )
Joe Polito had to leave the meeting and requested the Committee review the
plans so he can share his comments.
- How will the sidewalks work on Old Barnstable Road?
- Sign for the school , will it get better exposure in front of the school
or at the intersection?
The Committee agreed two signs will be needed - 1 cheap, 1 good.
- There are a lot of toilets all over the place. Can some of the faculty
ones become unisex, eliminating some? They cost about $8,000 per room.
- Tip of the arrow. Give thought to eliminating it, there is a lot of money
in it. Paul said the floor plate of the building has been set.
- Roof drainage , has to be looked at very seriously for ponding.
(First floor administration does not reflect changes that have been made. )
The classroom door issue has not been resolved. Bob told Daedalus there
will be 20 more doors than presently shown on the plan .
- Cafeteria - circulation in front of the auditorium, is there a problem
with it?
Bob has asked Perkins and Will to address that issue with diagrams and a
letter. Joe said it will become a real sore point; it has to be corrected.
- Glass vs. brick, wood vs. brick and the cost factors . Where can we save
money? It has to be looked at.
Paul said that is a done issue, Committee agreed on it.
Joe said if we' re looking for ways to cut, it can be looked at.
Joe said the comment sheets show many people are not happy with the looks
of the building.
- Is there enough operable sash to get fresh air in?
Paul said the window will let some fresh air in but the ventilation is from
overhead system.
Joe asked how much it would cost for larger windows.
Paul asked about the bike rack location. Would be cheaper to put them all
together? The ones near the play fields are not close enough to be useful .
- Joe said the Committee has to look at carpet!
Merry Sue asked the custodian in her building who said he can clean carpet
cheaper than tile floor.
Paul said we have to buy the right equipment to clean it.
- Paul said timber benches are shown. There are more durable materials.
- Courtyard shows 6 ft wide concrete walkway, concrete is too expensive.
Bob suggested stone as a good alternative.
C
, 7
